The 5 Best Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Quotes
Love it or hate it, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones™ is essential viewing for all Star Wars™ fans. The prequel film follows characters we know and love — plus some new faces — across the galaxy before the rise of the evil Empire™.
Attack of the Clones has plenty of memorable moments, and even more iconic quotes. So sit back and join us below as we break down 5 of the best! Memes not included.
“Oh my goodness! Shut me down.” – C-3PO
Stuck in a droid factory on the planet Geonosis™, C-3PO™ notes the “perverse” nature of machines building other machines — AKA battle droids™. Since C-3PO was built and programmed by a human, his outlook makes sense. There’s a personal bias there that he can’t shake.
Thus, C-3PO makes this melodramatic remark to his companion R2-D2™ with all the sass and class we’ve come to expect from our favorite protocol droid™. Oh, Threepio™. Never change.
“Why do I get the feeling you’re going to be the death of me?” – Obi-Wan Kenobi
Ouch! Enjoyers of Dramatic irony certainly got a kick out of this one. After a high-velocity speeder chase through Coruscant™, Obi-Wan Kenobi™ has some stern words for his Padawan™. We can all tell Obi-Wan’s patience with Anakin Skywalker’s™ antics is running thin — yet he nonetheless follows Anakin’s wild schemes.
Still, he complains about it, as evidenced above. And anybody who watched the Original Trilogy before the prequels knows Darth Vader™ cuts Ben Kenobi™ down. Spot-on instincts there, Obi-Wan.
“Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is.” – Yoda
Master Yoda™ is one of the oldest Star Wars characters. He’s hundreds of years into adulthood. His age has brought him wisdom. And that wisdom reminds him to seek answers outside of himself. When Obi-Wan Kenobi is confronted with a seemingly unsolvable problem, he seeks Yoda’s assistance. Yoda, in turn, asks a group of younglings for help.
A particularly clever youngling quickly solves the mystery of Obi-Wan’s missing planet. This just goes to show that fresh eyes and a new perspective — especially one from somebody you might consider “untrained” — are invaluable.
“To be angry is to be human.” – PadmĂ© Amidala
PadmĂ© Amidala™ is truly underrated. She’s both a voice of reason and a woman of action. The queen/senator knows how to wield a blaster, disguise herself as a handmaiden, and even battle Nexus™. Not only that, but everything she says is super quotable. However, among her many wonderful lines, this piece of advice stands out.
Look, PadmĂ© spends a lot of time in this film surrounded by repressed men who would generally rather deny their feelings than face them. Here she reminds Anakin that anger is an essential part of being alive. After everything she’s been through, she would certainly know.
“Compassion, which I would define as unconditional love, is essential to a Jedi’s life. So you might say that we are encouraged to love.” – Anakin Skywalker
This is a really cool take on the Jedi Code™. In most instances, we see Jedi™ struggle with attachments to other beings. They practice empathy, but draw the line at outright affection. Here, however, Anakin Skywalker interprets the rules a little differently. He explains that emotions are essential to how Jedi operate, and love is therefore part of the job.
Honestly, this is probably the healthiest mindset to have. Of course, Anakin eventually takes it too far. He does, after all, feel very strongly about everything — we know his stance on sand, for instance. But we could also argue it’s love that saves Anakin in the end. When Luke Skywalker™ pulls his father away from the dark side decades later, it is with the power of love.
