5 Characters We Need To See In The Mandalorian Season 2

Last year The Mandalorian opened up a whole new world of possibilities for the Star Wars universe. More than Rogue One or Solo ever did, it showed fans of the franchise what the world outside of the Trilogy of Trilogies contained, simultaneously expanding it exponentially while also bringing in elements of the franchise’s expanded lore that many never thought they’d see committed to film.

According to rumors, it’s only the beginning. While it’s not officially confirmed, it’s more or less been announced that Rosario Dawson will be appearing in the second season of the show as a live-action version of fan favorite character Ahsoka Tano. This could be a game-changer in the world of Star Wars. Firstly, it would confirm that Ahsoka is still alive at the end of the original trilogy and secondly, could open up a world of possibilities as to where the character may be going.

While the primary joy of watching The Mandalorian is seeing new corners of the Star Wars universe, it’s hard to not get a kick out of the potential of Ahsoka joining the crew, or from Easter eggs like the Darksaber being introduced (I STILL HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS).

While we never want to see The Mandalorian become more a collection of cameos and Easter eggs than a story, here are a few Star Wars characters we’d love to see make an appearance in future seasons of the show.

Sabine Wren

Fans of Star Wars: Rebels (which, if you aren’t already, you should become) know that between the expansion of Mandalorian lore in the show, the introduction of the Darksaber, and the fact that she was last seen setting out on a mission to find a missing friend with none other than Ahsoka, there’s a fair chance we’ll eventually see at least one beloved member of the Ghost crew on our screens.

Sabine Wren, a leader in the early days of the Rebellion and a fierce Mandalorian warrior is, as far as we know, the last person to wield the Darksaber. Sure, Moff Gideon holding the weapon in the Season 1 finale of The Mandalorian doesn’t bode well for Sabine’s fate.

But it seems ludicrous that they’d kill off such a beloved character offscreen, especially considering how many Rebels minds are involved in the show’s production. No, there’s a good chance we haven’t seen the last of Sabine Wren. Hopefully the Darksaber will be back in her hands soon enough.

Dash Rendar

Okay, don’t throw your tomatoes at me just yet. No, Dash Rendar isn’t exactly the cream of the crop when it comes to expanded lore characters. The dude isn’t even canon anymore. But if Grand Admiral Thrawn’s reintroduction to the franchise in Rebels is any indication, there’s nothing stopping the Star Wars crew from integrating Legends canon into main canon.

While Thrawn certainly has a richer fictional history to draw from, why not make Dash Rendar cool? The goofy Han Solo rip-off was a lot of fun way back in the Shadows of the Empire days and would fit in great in the world of Mando and Baby Yoda.

Clone Troopers

There may be some serious plot mumbo-jumbo needed to actually pull this one off, given the shorter lifespan of Clone Troopers but, oh man, how cool would it be to see a Rex-style Clone Trooper who never got turned during Order 66?

Again, the plot logistics may cancel this possibility out but it’s still fun to imagine what a character like that may have been up to in the years since the rise (and fall) of the Empire.

Maz Kanata

It doesn’t feel right to call Maz one of the great failures of the new trilogy – she proved plenty memorable and had some really wonderful moments – but there’s a sense that she never lived up to the potential it seemed she had way back in The Force Awakens.

We don’t know much about Maz, only that she’s very old and fully able to navigate the underworld of the Star Wars galaxy. With that being so much of what The Mandalorian deals with, it feels like the perfect setting for her to make an appearance and expand on her story a bit.

She seems, at times, to be a guardian of the Force and that certainly seems to be what our boy Mando needs now that he’s responsible for Baby Yoda.

Boba Fett

Maybe this is just wishful thinking but, man, it feels like this has to happen somehow. It doesn’t matter how, and it doesn’t matter when, but Boba Fett has long been owed a proper death (or at least a proper ending to his story that doesn’t involve a Sarlacc pit) and the Mandalorian, Din Djarin, is the guy to give it to him.

We need this showdown like we needed Obi-Wan and Anakin to fight in Revenge of the Sith, like we needed Donald Glover to play Lando. It is, as Thanos might say, inevitable.

This is the way.
