Star Wars: Ahsoka Official Second Trailer Breakdown

The second official trailer for Star Wars: Ahsoka™ is finally here! The full-length trailer gives us a glimpse of Ahsoka Tano’s future with the Rebel Alliance™ while also reaching into her past with the Jedi Order™. Are Baylan and Shin Inquisitors?

One of the greatest mysteries from the first Ahsoka trailer was the identity of two dark side users. Since their reveal as Baylan™ and Shin™, they carry red lightsabers™ and are clearly antagonists. This trailer confirms they work for Thrawn™. Baylan also insists, rather nastily, “We are no Jedi.” It’s a nice nod to Ahsoka’s own Rebels™ quote, “I am no Jedi.”

But wait, there’s much more going on with these two! A lot of the footage shows Baylan and Shin attacking a Rebel ship or facing off with our protagonists. “Anakin spoke highly of you,” Baylan tells Ahsoka in a shocking moment. Wait, what? How did Baylan know Anakin Skywalker™? Or is he referring — with a little too much familiarity — to the Sith Lord Darth Vader™?

Finally, are they Inquisitors™? They don’t seem to be Sith™, but they do have a master and apprentice relationship, which isn’t present in the Inquisitor ranks. Additionally, we see a masked Inquisitor later in this trailer. As darkness permeates the galaxy, it seems it will take many forms.

Ezra Bridger and Lothal

As always, the question is: Where’s Ezra Bridger™? At least in this trailer we get to hear him speak! The missing Jedi™ gives some sage wisdom to his old friend Sabine Wren™ before we lose him again. Later, though, we find him in the Rebels family portrait — painted years ago by Sabine.

This adorable mural is located on Ezra’s home planet of Lothal™. That planet is hugely significant, as it is home to both Jedi Temple ruins as well as mystical beasts called Loth Wolves™. We’re not entirely sure what Sabine’s been doing while living there, but her high-speed speeder chase™ gives us a few hints. Our hypothesis: She’s causing trouble for the Empire, biding her time as she waits for more clues to Ezra’s whereabouts.

Hera Syndulla

Captain Hera Syndulla™ is as passionate as ever. In this footage, we see her appeal to her fellow Rebels to avoid starting a war. That, of course, doesn’t mean she isn’t fighting back. We see her reunited with Ahsoka — and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a Hera and Sabine meet-up, too. At the very least, Hera and Ahsoka talk about Sabine, a person of interest to both the Rebels and former Jedi.

Master Ahsoka Tano

Since abandoning the Jedi way, Ahsoka Tano has sure kept busy. However, she seems to be a bit of a loner. The Ahsoka trailer shows its titular character reuniting with old friends on her quest. Some are more pleased to see her than others. Interestingly enough, while Sabine reacts a bit gruffly, she calls Ahsoka “Master.” What exactly does that mean?

Is Sabine Wren a Jedi?

The short answer is: We don’t think so. Rebels watchers already know Sabine Wren has trained with Jedi, chiefly Kanan Jarrus™ and Ezra Bridger. But she did so to master the Darksaber™. While Sabine can, has, and clearly will wield a lightsaber, she prefers her Mandalorian™ weapons and culture.

Except … Sabine’s appeal to the Force gives us pause. Shin proceeds to mock Sabine, saying “You have no power!” However, Sabine’s attempt to reach out is fascinating. And what exactly was Ahsoka Tano training Sabine how to do? Perhaps Sabine needs to access the Force to reach Ezra. Since Rebels dealt with deep lore and mysticism, we expect a similar approach in Ahsoka.

Lars Mikkelsen Returns as Thrawn

Of course, Grand Admiral Thrawn™ is our big bad. In this trailer, we finally get to see that chilling Chiss™ face. Now we can say for certain that Lars Mikkelsen, who voiced Thrawn in Rebels, is reprising his iconic role in live action. While that was already confirmed at Star Wars Celebration™, it’s great to see him onscreen again.

Do we know how he made it back without Ezra? Well, that mystical light show that Baylan, Shin, and Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth™ were putting on could be the key. However, we suspect we’ll get all those answers after August 23.

Final Thoughts and Takeaways

If you’re anything like us, your favorite scenes were all set on Lothal. The Rebels series nostalgia is glorious and putting us right in our feels. And we’ve almost got the entire Ghost Crew™ assembled! Hera, Ahsoka, Sabine, Ezra, and Chopper™ are in Ahsoka. We’ll probably hear about Kanan, and possibly see his son, Jacen™. With Garazeb’s™ cameo in The Mandalorian™, our one remaining family member is Kallus™! Also, we’re all holding out hope for Hondo™.

But we digress. Ultimately, the Ahsoka trailer didn’t reveal too much — just like the main character herself. Ahsoka is searching for Thrawn and needs help to defeat him. Evil characters are running amok, working against the light. In the middle of it all, Mon Mothma’s™ Rebel Alliance is attempting to push back against the Empire. That’s not much to go off of plot-wise, but we’ll adore and analyze those 2 minutes and 12 seconds plenty while we wait for the show’s summer premiere.
