This month, Missy H. from the Let Your Geek Sideshow moderator team shares her love of Marvel heroes, DC Comics villains, and the puppetry of Jim Henson!

Please introduce yourself to our audience!

Hi, I’m Missy! I am a moderator in our Sideshow groups and I have had the honor of hanging out here for just over a year!

What would you say are your three favorite pop culture fandoms/licenses?

My three favorite fandoms are Iron Man (Marvel in general, but this is the headliner!), any Jim Henson properties, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In general though, I am a lover of fantastic entertainment and the list is insanely long!

My number one pop culture love is Iron Man. There is more to this than my long following of RDJ, though. As a teacher, I connect to Tony because he proves that you don’t need to be born with or acquire any super powers to be a hero. Using your mind can be just as powerful as anything else!

Growing up in the 80s, Muppets were EVERYWHERE and in forms for adults and children alike. There is a place in my heart that will always be open to the imagination and wonder that Jim Henson instilled in me. Most recently, the world of Thra came back to life in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and introduced a new generation of fans to the magic of practical puppetry!

What from our catalogue would you recommend for likeminded collectors? What personally inspires you?

Recommendation #1: Iron Man Mark XLIII Sixth Scale Figure (Hot Toys)–  I think my essential pick of an Iron Man product is the Iron Man MK XLIII Sixth Scale Figure. This one was an unexpected love for me and was my first diecast piece.

The armor itself is stunning with just the right amount of battle damage and the base is my favorite with a damaged Ultron Mark I for him to step on! A perfect Tony Stark face sculpt is also a must for me and this one is beautiful! As a bonus, he is designed to fit inside the Hulkbuster.

Recommendation #2: The World of the Dark Crystal Book (Insight Editions) Brian Froud designed the world and the creatures that Jim Henson and his team brought to life through The Dark Crystal series. This book is loaded with beauty beyond imagination as well as behind the scenes insights that include a recreation of the booklet given to the film’s early backers. I have a collection of Henson behind the scenes and art books and this is a necessary piece for me and any fan of fantasy.

Recommendation #3: Catwoman 1:4 Scale Maquette (Tweeterhead)–  Remember when I said my fandom list was long? This is a little something from the “Missy loves it so much” broad category. The Catwoman Maquette by Tweeterhead is the most exciting thing that I’ve ever seen with the word “pre-order.”

As a kiddo, watching Julie Newmar in Batman reruns enamored me…then in 1992, Batman Returns happened and Michelle Pfeiffer came purring into my world. I’ve been obsessed ever since and the moment I saw the full reveal of this statue, I could barely contain my excitement. I cannot wait to have this piece in my collection!

Anything else you’d like to share?

Keep finding the things that make you happy and smile on the worst of days – that’s what makes a collection truly special!
