While Ahsoka Tano™ doesn’t regret walking away from the Jedi™, she does regret leaving her master, Anakin Skywalker™. She carries that pain with her for a long time. And when she comes into conflict with Darth Vader™ years later, she finally sees her own loneliness and grief reflected in his masked visage.

Even while the temple on Malachor™ is collapsing around her, she refuses to leave him. The whole scene is stunning, really. But that simple quote is the most chill-inducing part of it.

Hera fights while having faith that the light will rise and the galaxy will see peace once more. That’s a beautiful outlook for someone who has seen horrific conflict and injustice in her life.

Forgiveness is difficult. Self-forgiveness is even harder. But Rebels shows us that Ezra Bridger’s™ guilt is preventing him from accessing his full abilities and powers. He’s holding onto too much of the self-doubt and slip-ups of his past, rather than putting his all into his future.

Here, Kanan Jarrus™ tells his apprentice that it’s okay to accept your own mistakes. Kanan wants Ezra to move on and grow into someone better, free of the constraints that insecurity and shame bring.

Sabine Wren™ is one of the best Star Wars characters. She shoulders a ton of responsibility, yet retains her fun-loving personality and mischievous streak. Her maturity and respect for her modern Mandalorian™ culture don’t conflict with her love of art. Sabine works hard, knows herself, and does everything she can for her family.

Thus, when Ezra Bridger tells Sabine that he’s counting on her, she accepts the responsibility without question. Additionally, later in life she realizes there’s a bigger picture to the puzzle — and in typical Sabine fashion, she’ll fully dedicate herself to figuring it out.

Sci-fi is at its most powerful when it touches on real-world issues. In Rebels, Grand Admiral Thrawn™ is a collector and connoisseur of historical artifacts and art. But the Imperial officer obtains these items by colonizing, terrorizing, and obliterating the places they originate from. How can you admire cultural art while destroying its people, and thus erasing the entire context of its existence? Ezra Bridger thankfully calls Thrawn out for his ignorance and greed in this moving scene.

As one of the sole survivor’s of his people’s genocide, Garazeb Orrelios™ sure has a lot of reasons to hate. Yet the Lasat™ loves his crew — in his tough, gruff way — and walks through life with a big grin. He gets to punch Imperials almost every week, after all. That meets a very basic happiness need for him.

But in all seriousness, Zeb’s been through a lot. It’s taken a lot of personal growth and hard work to get past that trauma. So for him to reach out to Agent Alexsandr Kallus™, a man partially responsible for Lasan’s™ destruction, is major.

“I’ll take that as a compliment.” – Alexsandr Kallus

Agent Alexsandr Kallus’ character development throughout Rebels is fantastic. He starts as a stern Imperial intent on destroying the Ghost Crew. But then he recognizes his own prejudices and is forced to confront his isolation and self-made prison that is his role within the Empire.

After that, he gets to work as Fulcrum™. That doesn’t go too well — Kallus gets caught. In a pivotal confrontation with Thrawn, however, Kallus demonstrates his true, unwavering commitment to the Rebellion as well as to his new family. Well done, Kallus. We should all aim to have the hearts of rebels.
