The Best Star Wars Television Moments from 2022 By Jasmine Edwards 2022 was an excellent year for Star Wars™. Specifically, short-form content shone on the Disney Plus streaming platform. With multiple magnificent series, Star Wars fans had a plethora of entertainment to choose from. And while all of it was amazing, there were some stand-out scenes. In no particular order, here are our personal picks for the best Star Wars television moments of 2022. Cassian’s Prison Break Andor™ We spend a large portion of the Andor series inside a max security prison. The floors are electrified, and the guards are ruthless. Cassian Andor™, already a rebel at heart, slowly spreads dissent among the inmates. He encourages them to fight back. And eventually they do, culminating in one of the most exciting Star Wars TV episodes ever. While the entirety of “One Way Out” is amazing, one scene in particular makes our list. As the episode title suggests, there is only one way to escape the prison — by jumping into the treacherous waters below. In a single, heartbreaking moment, Kino Loy™ realizes he won’t be leaving because he can’t swim. It’s absolutely devastating, and shows us that our heroes don’t always win. Riot on Ferrix Andor While many viewers considered Andor a bit slow to start, all that waiting and rising tension eventually pays off in a big way. Andor’s explosive finale begins with a ticking bomb and ends in the uprising against the Empire that we’ve all wanted to see since the pilot. On Ferrix™, the oppressed citizens finally reach their breaking point. They’ve had it with the rampant terrorizing, stormtrooper™ brutality, and Imperial overreach. So during Marva Andor’s™ funeral, the insurgents play Mara’s last words, which are a call to action. And they certainly act. Thus within the chaos, hope is finally born. Boba Fett Rides a Rancor The Book of Boba Fett™ Ever since Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi™, we’ve been fascinated by the hulking creature known as the rancor™. Luckily, we’ve found more in a galaxy far, far away than Jabba the Hutt’s™ short-lived pet. In The Book of Boba Fett, Boba Fett™ goes from riding his ship to riding banthas™ and back. But he misses the land-dwelling animals and the freedom they provide. He also wants to strike fear into his enemies’ hearts with a more ferocious mount. So what does he do? Well, as the Mos Espa Daimyo™, he keeps a young rancor beneath the palace to punish people who do him wrong. But Boba Fett is also interested in the creature’s emotional depth and physical prowess. In the season 1 finale, we see all of his hard work from training and learning about the rancor come to fruition as he rides it into battle against the Pykes™. The moment is both super awesome and befitting of a man with his reputation. Obi-Wan and Vader’s Duel Obi-Wan Kenobi™ The Darth Vader™ and Obi-Wan Kenobi™ duel in the Obi-Wan Kenobi finale is undoubtedly the best scene in the entire show. Master and apprentice reunite in the most heart-wrenching lightsaber™ battle since Anakin Skywalker™ turned to the dark side. They aim to punish each other and themselves in this fight, taking every opportunity to crush their opponent. While the fight choreography is very cool, of course, the emotional turmoil that follows is really what gives this a spot on our list. Brought to his knees, a wheezing Vader looks up. His helmet has broken to reveal what’s underneath. A clear homage to the Vader vs. Ahsoka Tano™ duel in Star Wars: Rebels™, Anakin Skywalker’s haunted yellow eyes stare into those of his old Master. His scarred face, warped voice, and metal visage bring Obi-Wan Kenobi to tears. He apologizes for everything that happened between them. Then, refusing to engage any longer, and knowing Vader is beaten, Obi-Wan walks away. Although it’s shocking, it makes sense, and it’s the only way their story can end — for now. Dooku Turns to the Dark Side Tales of the Jedi™ Finally, we had to save room for this impressive animated series! Tales of the Jedi gifted viewers with beautiful animation and short stories focusing on many fan-favorite characters. Most importantly, we get to see the fall of Count Dooku™, which happened offscreen prior to the events of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace™. We also learn more about the relationship between Dooku and his apprentice Qui-Gon Jinn™, supplying us with valuable information about both of these Force-wielders. Although it was difficult to pick a single scene, we’re going with the Dooku vs. Yaddle™ battle. Firstly, it’s nice to see Yaddle shine as more than a Jedi Council™ seat-filler. Secondly, Dooku’s own internal conflict and the insidious presence of Emperor Palpatine™ juxtaposing Yaddle’s pleas to bring Dooku back to the light are an exciting combination. And lastly, it’s simply nice to finally fill in the gaps of this tragic backstory. What do you consider the best 2022 Star Wars TV moments? Did we miss your favorite?
