Calling All Mutants! Building the Best X-Men Team Ever

Marvel fans have loved mutants since the X-Men’s debut in 1963. However, one question always causes strife (no, not Cable’s evil twin) among fans: What is the strongest X-Men lineup?

Well, not to worry, the debate is finally settled. There are always the classic choices. A few will appear here but there also might be some surprising selections. The most powerful X-teams combine Omega-level mutants with fighters who fulfill specific battle requirements. Strap in to the Blackbird — it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

Storm

Listen, if you’re going for an all-powerful lineup, you can’t leave out Storm. Ororo Munroe is the undisputed Mistress of the Skies — and anyone who does dispute this is quickly brought back down to Earth.

An ideal X-Men lineup includes someone who can tap into an elemental source of power, and who better than Storm? She has lightning and thunder at her fingertips, with rain, snow, wind, and any other weather not far behind. Her Omega-level control of weather gives her near infinite attack potential. Not to mention she is skilled with a knife as well as magic. Really, there’s not much Storm can’t do.

Jean Grey

While we’re on the subject of legendary Omega mutants, Jean Grey is a vital choice in forming the strongest X-Men lineup ever. Since her beginning as Marvel Girl, Jean has grown into the world’s most formidable telepathy and telekinesis combo.

Moreover, there’s the Phoenix Force of it all. While Jean and the Phoenix have had a volatile relationship from the very start (to say the least), their connection only amplifies Jean’s innate psychic potential. However, even without this inferno, Jean Grey can split atoms with the utmost ease. That’s the kind of power you want on your team.

Dazzler

Our first unconventional choice is Alison Blaire, AKA Dazzler. She’s an often underutilized X-Men character and she is also now infamous for being part of the doomed Hellfire Gala 2023 team.

But Dazzler’s power set makes her uniquely suited for the X-Men’s big battles. Think about it: All that crashing and booming is just fuel for Dazzler’s sound-based energies. She could easily take advantage of the loud chaos to bring the house down.

Mystique

Yeah yeah yeah, she’s evil, she can’t be trusted … we’ve heard it all before. But much like Wolverine, she’s the very best at what she does. And what Mystique does certainly isn’t nice.

Every team needs someone who’s willing to push a little further. Mystique is the kind of teammate who will follow through on the tough decisions without batting an eye. She’s ruthless and if she’s properly incentivized, she’ll make sure her side always wins. Shapeshifting, espionage, acrobatic murder — Mystique is an asset to the X-Men even if she and her wife Destiny torment them from time to time.

Wolverine

Speaking of Wolverine, there’s a reason he’s always included in the best X-Men lineups. His near immortality makes him an invaluable brawler on the battlefield. If a teammate is in danger, he’ll slice through anything with those claws.

Plus, Wolverine’s hand to hand combat skills are unrivaled. Whether he’s using a katana, his claws, or his bloodied and bruised fists, Wolverine is the wild card every lineup requires.

Monet St. Croix

Monet St. Croix combines the best of many power sets when it comes to super-strength — she can fly high like Rogue, she has invulnerability like Colossus, and she can punch a hole in nearly anything.

Besides her ability to recreate the Fastball Special, she also has telepathy and her Penance form. Monet’s scarlet-skinned form is just as ferocious as Wolverine, making this Generation X alum a versatile addition in any fight.

Ms. Marvel

Battles are a serious matter. One wrong move can result in being torn in half, incinerated, or both at the same time. On the other hand, a little humor is needed to cut the tension.

That’s where the team’s newbie comes in. In the ’90s, Jubilee filled this role. But since our lineup already includes a light-based heavy hitter, Ms. Marvel is the right choice. Not only is she funny but she also offers super strength of a different variety. As a polymorph, Kamala Khan can reach across and around, up and down, wherever her assistance is needed. Talk about being handy!

Rictor

There is no question whether Storm is a force of nature all on her own. However, her weather powers don’t connect to the earth itself. For this reason, Julio Richter, AKA Rictor, is the perfect complement to Storm. Together, their power set enables complete control of the planet’s biosphere.

In addition to Rictor’s control over anything related to earth itself (rocks, magma, plants, etc.), he also has an affinity for magic. Like Storm, he has recently tapped further into his magical power. With Rictor and Storm on the scene, elemental magic will be harnessed by the X-Men like never before.

Manifold

In the fast-paced action of a battle, teleportation can be the difference between life and death. For X-fans, the first teleporter they think of is probably Kurt Wagner, AKA Nightcrawler. However, he’s currently very busy operating in disguise as the Uncanny Spider-Man.

And that’s where Eden Fesi comes in to play. Known among his fellow mutants as Manifold, Eden actually brings even more versatility as a teleporter. His mutant gift is the ability to speak with the universe itself and ask for space to reconfigure around his needs. Now that’s gonna deliver some cosmic results.

Dani Moonstar

Finally, you need a strategist to tie everyone on the team together. Trained by the X-Men’s original field leader Cyclops, Dani Moonstar of the New Mutants is the perfect choice to lead this all-new, well-rounded, super-sized team.

In addition to her natural talent with battle tactics and giving commands, Dani also has a powerful connection to Hela and her Valkyrie forces. Backup in battle is always appreciated. Plus, Dani can use her mutant gift of weaponizing an enemy’s deepest fears to terrifying effect.
