Who’s Who in James Gunn’s DCU Superman (2025)?

James Gunn’s Superman soars into theaters on July 11, 2025. That’s only two months away! Ahead of the film’s release, DC released a teaser trailer as well as a full-length trailer. The official footage cemented more of the plot, while also giving fans further glimpses at an absolutely massive cast of characters. If you don’t know who some of them are, you’re not alone! With 10+ new faces (and not to mention some voice cameos from Alan Tudyk and Michael Rooker) spearheading the first live-action initiative in Gunn’s revamped DCU, it’s hard to keep track.

Luckily, we’ve got you covered. Below, meet the cast of Superman (2025). Plus, get the rundown on some of those deep-cut characters like The Engineer and Metamorpho.

David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Kal-El/Superman

Scientists Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van sent their child, Kal-El, to Earth before the planet Krypton’s destruction. Raised as Clark Kent, son of Martha (Neva Howell) and Jonathan Kent (Pruitt Taylor Vince), Clark grows into a young man with extraordinary abilities and compassion. He is Earth’s noble protector, a symbol of infinite hope. Although Superman is nearly invincible and possesses the powers to destroy worlds — including flight, super speed, and super vision — he chooses goodness. And even when everyone is against him, he stands strong for his beliefs: truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.

Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane

Lois Lane is the Daily Planet’s best reporter. As a world-famous investigative journalist, she is fiercely dedicated to finding the truth, even risking her life to uncover deep, dark secrets. Lois’ father was a general in the United States military who instilled in his daughter virtue and a no-nonsense attitude as well as the means to defend herself. Her confidence, optimism, and empathy draw Clark Kent’s attention. Now, Superman and Lois Lane are one of the most iconic comic book couples of all time.

Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor

When you hear about the hero Superman, you almost always hear about him in tandem with Lex Luthor. As Superman’s arch-nemesis, the billionaire industrialist stands for everything that Clark Kent does not. Lex is extremely intelligent, ruthlessly efficient, and endlessly creative — yet he uses his brilliant mind to cause pain and suffering. His business, LexCorp, fosters political and capital corruption. And Lex Luthor loathes even the concept of Superman, pouring all of his money and resources into destroying an alien whom he considers a threat to American society and safety.

IMDb also credits Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Lex Luthor’s girlfriend who ultimately leaves Lex after Superman saves her life.

María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer

The Engineer is actually a member of The Authority, who first appeared in the Wildstorm imprint. In comics, The Authority uses extreme methods to achieve their goals — think of the Justice League, only excessively violent and morally gray. In Superman, Angela Spica doesn’t seem to belong to a team. Instead, she works for Lex Luthor. While the movie likely won’t touch on her backstory, it’s important to note that Angela voluntarily replaced her own blood with liquid machinery. The Engineer utilizes these nanites in her bloodstream to liquify and mold her body into a living weapon. Most often, Angela creates solid objects on her hands to fight.

Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific

Michael Holt is reportedly the third smartest man in the entire world. While he does not have any super powers, his genius level intellect helps him craft extraordinary technology. He uses spherical electronics called T-Spheres, which are basically drones with artificial intelligence, to fight and capture enemies. Notably, Mister Terrific has 14 doctorates, black belts in various martial arts disciplines, and an Olympic gold medal in the decathlon. Michael’s scientific and analytical brain, combined with an innate love for humanity, help him stand out as a super hero even though he can’t fly or shoot laser beams from his eyes.

Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl

Hawkgirl’s history is complex, to say the least. She is the reincarnation of the angelic herald Shrra, cursed to be endlessly reborn across time and space alongside Hawkman. Due to a hard home life and memories of past lives, Kendra Saunders struggles with school and her mental health. However, her role within the Justice League helps her find her place in the world. Devoting herself wholeheartedly to the team, Kendra uses her enhanced strength, endurance, razor-sharp wings, and a medieval mace to exact due punishment on villains.

Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern

Guy Gardner is a member of the Green Lantern Corps. In fact, he’s only the second representative to be selected from Earth. That means he possesses ultimate willpower. Guy’s early life is fraught with abuse and juvenile delinquency, but he eventually turns everything around to pursue super-heroism. Unfortunately, he can’t always shake the bad attitude — a bit of an obnoxious ego that hides insecurity and jealousy — forged by his childhood. Still, Guy is right to be confident. His energy constructs are powerful and somewhat second nature, erupting from his ring with a flick of the wrist.

Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho

Metamorpho, or the Element Man, is an archaeologist who can transmute into any element contained within the human body. He is a metahuman, whose transformation into Element Man was triggered while in Egypt. Exposed to a radioactive meteor in the desert, Rex Mason developed what he considers a bizarre, disfigured, and inhuman appearance, causing suicidal ideation and self-loathing. Fortunately, his love for Sapphire Stagg keeps him grounded. Rex works as a bodyguard and super hero, and is friends with Mister Terrific.

Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen

Jimmy Olsen is a young reporter and photographer at the Daily Planet. Jimmy is bright but a bit irresponsible, often getting into trouble during major crises in Metropolis. He is Clark Kent — and Superman’s —  best friend. In Superman, it’s unclear whether or not Jimmy knows about Clark’s alter ego. However, the two are obviously already close, dancing and laughing in their office. And since Superman is far from an origin story, we might be able to assume Jimmy is keeping Clark’s secret just like Lois Lane is.

Wendell Pierce also rounds out the Daily Planet office as Editor-in-Chief Perry White. Mikaela Hoover plays Cat Grant, an entertainment and gossip columnist. Cat famously holds a grudge against Supergirl and does her best to turn Metropolis against the Girl of Steel. Perhaps Cat will also act as a Superman hater in Superman.

Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.

Remember Rick Flag Jr. from Suicide Squad and The Suicide Squad? Yeah, Peacemaker killed him! His dad, Rick Flag Sr., is also a decorated officer in the United States Armed Forces. Frank Grillo actually already brought the character to the rebranded DCU in the animated series Creature Commandos, in which he led the volatile team against the sorceress Circe. Now, Rick Flag operates within the U.S. government. In the Superman trailer, he arrests and detains Superman. Whether this is Amanda Waller’s order, or someone else’s, remains to be seen — but he is walking with Lex Luthor’s sidekick, The Engineer…
