Woman of Tomorrow

• Release Year: 2021

Woman of Tomorrow actually inspired the latest Supergirl movie. Searching for purpose in a vast universe, Kara wrestles with despair, grief, and loneliness. Everything changes when an alien asks for Kara’s help on a vengeful quest. Although the film project adjusts a few plot points to tighten up the DCU canon, make no mistake that Supergirl takes inspiration from this venerated arc.

Supergirl: Misadventures in Midvale

• Release Year: 2025

The Maiden of Might starts a whole new chapter in this invigorating story. Serious and silly, and balancing both super well, Misadventures in Midvale features a case of ultimate identity theft. Because if Kara Danvers is back to start fresh outside of Metropolis … who’s donning the cape in her stead? Wonderful, and full of caped cats, this is a series not to be missed.

Supergirl: Being Super

Being Super takes readers back to Kara’s roots. A heartwarming and heart-wrenching coming-of-age tale, it follows Kara when she’s only sixteen. Being burdened by normal teen problems is already overwhelming. But what if you add trauma from losing your parents and your entire planet? Consider this comic a standard for Supergirl’s backstory and behavior.

Superman/Batman: The Supergirl From Krypton

• Creators: Jeph Loeb and Michael Turner
• Release Year: 2004

This arc actually only spans issues #8-11 in the Batman/Superman run. But it’s a great glimpse into Kara and Clark’s familial relationship. Superman and Supergirl share their social struggles and heritage, becoming each other’s allies in the skies and on the ground alike. Also, Ma Kent makes Kara’s costume for her. How adorable is that!?

Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton

PUPPY! For fans who can’t get enough of this ornery Superdog, look no further. The Last Dog of Krypton explores Krypto’s life as baby Kal-El’s guardian and cuddle buddy. Then, it leaps (and bounds) ahead to his time on Earth with his young, wobbly ward. At its core, this comic is a lovable tale of a boy and his dog. We can’t ask for much more — and why would we?

LOBO

• Creators: Skottie Young and Jorge Corona
• Release Year: 2026

We couldn’t forget the Main Man. Lobo was a huge audience draw for Supergirl, and now he’s spitting and smearing engine grease all over these panels. Like a heavy metal album come to life, the latest Lobo run is a high-octane thriller full of motorcycles, guitar solos, and guts. Issue #4 even features a showdown between Supergirl and Lobo — ’cause Lobo may be a rule breaker, but he’s not kicking any continuity to the curb, especially when it’s as good as the Supergirl movie.
