Critical Role Announces Campaign 3 Premiere Date and Details

Critters, rejoice!

In the Fall 2021 State of the Role address, the minds behind Critical Role revealed the first official details about the highly anticipated Campaign 3, including the setting, the premiere date, and several other tantalizing teases at what is coming.

The wildly popular entertainment brand specializes in their blockbuster roleplaying campaigns, and that’s not slowing down any time soon. Coming on the heels of this summer’s Campaign 2: The Mighty Nein conclusion, Campaign 3 will feature a yet-unnamed group of adventurers exploring the distant continent of Marquet, located in the very same world of Exandria that played host to Vox Machina’s Tal’Dorei travels and the Mighty Nein’s Wildemount wanderings.

The premiere episode will launch on their Twitch channel (twitch.tv/criticalrole) and on theater screens in a limited one-night engagement with select Cinemark venues (cinemark.com/criticalrole to find a theater near you) on Thursday, October 21 at 7 PM PT. Podcasts are available the following Thursday.

Marquet

Marquet has long been a known part of the Exandrian world map, famous for being a large desert region and thought of as somewhat distant during the Vox Machina and Mighty Nein campaigns. The region was once said to be lush, but has since become harsh and dry, with volcanic features, sands, and scrubland between the sparse settlements.

Despite the distance, Marquet has been involved in mercantile and political industries across Exandria, and has ties to the sect that banished Uk’otoa and settlers who helped fund the construction of Emon. Several other Critical Role notables have histories in Marquet, as it was once under the rule of Thordak the red dragon, and the glorious Shaun Gilmore was born there in the village of Shandal. Vox Machina also searched for one of the Vestiges of Divergence here, called Cabal’s Ruin.

During the address, Marisha Ray revealed that a “History of Exandria” primer is coming soon to their channels, so fans needing a refresher or a first introduction to the lore will feel right at home with this helpful timeline guide that will put the world’s various settings and stories in their place.

What’s New?

While Matthew Mercer confirmed in a tweet that he is indeed still the GM of this new campaign, the Critical Role team has hinted that there may be new storytellers thrown into the mix in undisclosed ways. Marisha, Matt, and Travis Willingham urged fans to throw out every preconceived notion and expectation of what a Critical Role campaign can be, insisting that both longtime fans and brand new viewers will be treated to something new and engaging.

Moving forward, they clarified that the games will maintain their current pre-recorded format for the safety of the cast and the flexibility of scheduling. However, as always, the recordings will be unedited, meaning fans will get the same unadulterated storytelling and Laura Bailey hand-smacking we have come to know and love.

To aid in the production schedule (and allow fans to catch up if they fall behind), the last Thursday of every month will not feature a Campaign 3 broadcast. However, they stated this didn’t mean there would always be nothing on those nights β€” so there’s always a reason to look forward to Thursdays!

Additionally, the team has been hard at work on a brand-new set, meaning when the players and viewers return for this new adventure, we will get to experience an entirely new setup in the Critical Role studio. Finally, there will be a Campaign 3 aftershow following new episodes, featuring cast discussions and breakdowns of all the action. It will premiere in early 2022.

Whether this will be your first, second, or third journey through Exandria, the cast of Critical Role have been hard at work preparing to make this campaign launch accessible, exciting, and innovative.

Now it’s your turn to roll!
