Every Major Marvel Team Iron Man Has Been On

Iron Man has become one of the leading faces of the Marvel Universe, whether he’s in the films or the comics. His popularity has soared, not unlike his Iron Man suits. He’s an extremely influential hero due to his public persona and his ability to bankroll any new projects, technology, or programs that he wants build.

When Iron Man has a plan, he uses his resources to make connections. Those connections usher in his idyllic vision of the world. And while some heroes may work alone, Iron Man has always been a vocal member of a variety of different teams.

But what Marvel teams has Iron Man been a part of? And what are the goals of these different teams? You don’t need an artificial intelligence assistant to learn more. Here are just a few of the teams that Iron Man has been on:

Illuminati

The Illuminati was a group of brilliant minds from around the world. They collaborated on global projects concerning the safety and betterment of all beings across Earth. The original team consisted of some of the most well known and powerful super heroes ever.

There was Mr. Fantastic, the leader of the Fantastic Four, and a scientist that could even compete with intergalactic technarchs. Professor X is one of the Earth’s most powerful telepaths, and a representative for the X-Men and mutantkind. Doctor Strange, a surgeon-turned-master of the mystic arts, was able to represent the magical beings of Earth. Black Bolt was the silent leader of the Inhumans, and one of the most powerful superheroes on Earth. Namor is the King of Atlantis and represented the beings under the sea. Black Panther, King of the nation of Wakanda, genius, and mystic was also a part of the team. And finally, there was Iron Man, whose intelligence was well represented by his groundbreaking tech suits.

Together, they made cosmic decisions that changed the outcome of the world multiple times over. They operated in the shadows, hoping not to be noticed, and with their combined resources and brilliance, it worked. It’s not always clear what plans they have, but it is clear that their plans are effective, and in no small part due to Iron Man’s influence.

Guardians of the Galaxy

The Guardians of the Galaxy have had a strange and wonderful collection of members through the ages. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the team is comprised of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Rocket, and Mantis. Surprisingly, none of those characters were original members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. However, despite not being founding members, they still fight the good fight against the intergalactic dangers that threaten beings all across the galaxy.

One of the most dangerous intergalactic threats is the Mad Titan, Thanos. In one story arc, Thanos had acquired a corrupted Cosmic Cube. He planned to use the Cube as a claim to power so that he could make Lady Death fall madly in love with him. He used the cube to kill a variety of the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

However, he didn’t actually kill them. He simply sent them to another dimension called the Cancerverse, a corrupted and toxic dimension where death had been defeated and life grew unchecked. Iron Man and the Guardians worked together to free the heroes from the dimension and turn the tide against Thanos. After their victory, Star-Lord offered Iron Man a place on the team. Iron Man gladly accepted, and sported a cosmic suit for the occasion.

Avengers

The Avengers are one of the earliest super hero teams in Marvel comics. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they came together under the direction of Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. They were ready to fight any threat that he deemed worthy, and the first threat that truly needed all of their attention was the Loki, the God of Mischief. They worked together to defeat the alien army of the Chitauri. They were successful, and found comfort in knowing that Nick Fury’s plan worked.

In the comics, Nick Fury was not the mastermind behind the team’s formation. However, they did come together to fight for a very similar reason. Loki, though imprisoned in Asgard, was still able to manipulate events and create illusions within Midgard. And so Thor, Iron Man, the Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp worked together to defeat him. After they battled so valiantly together, they agreed to become a permanent group. The Wasp suggested the name The Avengers, and it changed Marvel history forever.

Time Heist Team (MCU)

After Avengers: Infinity War, it seemed like Thanos’ snap had changed the world for good (in a bad way). There was no possible way to bring back half of the world’s population. There was no way of undoing all of the pain he caused. And to some degree, it was true. But Iron Man refused to give up on a good challenge. He saw an opportunity to create something revolutionary, and he sacrificed everything to take that opportunity after solving the secret to time travel.

He worked together with Hulk and Ant-Man to produce a time machine, of sorts. He made special suits, dedicated to time travel, and with a massive platform and time travel hub, Iron Man was able to break into different timelines and acquire the Infinity Stones once more. Using the Infinity Stones, Tony Stark was eventually able to snap his fingers and undo Thanos’ atrocities, at the cost of his own life.

It still left a gap in time, and we’re still seeing the effects of the blip in shows like WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and more, but Iron Man’s sacrifice saved the Marvel Universe from Thanos.
