IS Die Hard a Christmas Movie? with Voice Actor Steve Blum

It’s an age old question that comes up every year: Is Die Hard actually a Christmas movie? You can decide for yourself in our super official poll below, but we think Doogie Horner and JJ Harrison answer this question pretty clearly in A Die Hard Christmas, published by Insight Editions.

They turned the unconventional fan-favorite movie Die Hard into an illustrated storybook — complete with machine guns, European terrorists, and a cop who’s forced to rely on all his cunning and skills (and the help of a fellow officer) to save the day. Based on the classic “The Night Before Christmas” poem and filled with whimsical illustrations, A Die Hard Christmas is destined to become a holiday classic.

But the Christmas miracles don’t end there. Sideshow and Insight Editions teamed up with voice acting legend Steve Blum to provide a holiday video treat that defies definition. Trust us, you just have to watch this…

It might not be the traditional Christmas story, but there are a few pretty important arguments for and against it.

Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie:

The movie takes place during Christmas time. For some folks, that’s all you need as proof. That means that Home Alone is a Christmas movie, and so is Batman Returns, Rocky IV, and more. As long as it’s around Christmas time, wouldn’t it be a Christmas movie?

And it definitely helps that the film’s writer Steven E. de Souza says that it’s a Christmas movie.

No, Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie:

On the other hand, Bruce Willis himself insists that Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. In a Comedy Central Special he said, “No! Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. It’s a ******* Bruce Willis movie!” And it’s pretty reasonable to chalk it up to just an action movie with a coincidental festive backdrop.

And, according to polling done by Joanna Piacenza, head of industry intelligence for Morning Consult, most people don’t think Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
