But which Marvel super heroes take this ability higher, further, and faster? Who among them truly utilizes flight to its full and incredible potential? Because there’s a difference between falling with style and launching into battle with all your power and then some.

Sam Wilson/Falcon/Captain America

“Captain America is not just for the good days. He can’t be.”

Since he also has avian telepathy, Sam Wilson obviously makes our list. The hero has protected his country as both the Falcon and Captain America. Alongside his pet falcon Redwing, Sam is an adapt aerial fighter, mixing martial arts, a winged harness, and acrobatics into his style. Many consider his skills unsurpassable.

Monica Rambeau/Photon/Spectrum

“No one should have to ashamed of their culture, or who they in large part are.”

Monica Rambeau can alter her body mass into any energy form on the electromagnetic spectrum — hence her alias. Although the power took a bit to manifest, Monica is able to fly while in any wavelength. In some instances she has also been known to fly in her solid human form.

Ororo Munroe/Storm

“The true measure of life is in the living.”

Storm is an Omega Level Mutant. She can manipulate the weather and atmosphere to her will. Storm uses atmokinesis, among many other things, to summon wind and channel electromagnetism in order to soar in the skies. No wonder many humans worship her as a goddess.

Vision

“I am unique! I am the Vision!”

Vision is as fast as a bullet — and more dangerous than any weapon. His android body and synthezoid physiology grant him a great number of incredible abilities. For instance, when he changes his own density, Vision can fly weightlessly as well as pass through walls. This intangible/minimum mass mode is part of what makes him so invaluable to the Avengers.

 Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel

“Maybe if I fly far enough, I’ll be able to turn around and look at the world … and see where I belong.”

Carol Danvers gets her flight capabilities from being a human/Kree hybrid. She can rocket through the atmosphere and through space at tremendous speeds, which means she’s able to travel between planets. Outside of her super hero time, Captain Marvel is also a decorated Air Force veteran and incredible pilot.

Anna Marie/Rogue

“What defines us is hope.”

Rogue’s powers have not always been a blessing to her. Whenever she touches someone, she absorbs their energy and abilities — sometimes even their personalities, powers, and memories. But she’s always enjoyed flying. Her highest flight speed record exceeded 700 mph and she will presumably only continue to push past this limit.

Sam Guthrie/Cannonball

“You fellas wouldn’t happen to be invulnerable too, would ya?”

Cannonball of the New Mutants isn’t the smartest student in class. Yet the mutant’s thermo-chemical energy field propulsion always gives his team an edge. Sam releases this energy from his skin, which enables him to propel his body through the air in an invulnerable energy casing. Cannonball can also maneuver his flight pattern at will.

Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch

“Once upon a time, there was a witch.”

This sorceress has a lot going on. Widely considered one of the most powerful Marvel characters of all time, Scarlet Witch naturally has an entire arsenal of abilities. One of those is flight — not to be confused with her additional ability to levitate. Both skills stem from her expert command of chaos magic and witchcraft.

America Chavez/Miss America

“I’ve seen a lot of realities … and some things don’t change.”

A multiversal traveler, America channels inter-dimensional energy through her body. She prefers to focus on her star portal creation and immense physical strength while fighting. However, America can achieve self-propelled flight at superhuman speeds. This has come in clutch more than a couple times.

Warren Worthington III/Angel/Archangel

“Savior, killer, harbinger of hope or destruction…”

We begin and end our list with winged heroes! Unlike Sam Wilson above, Warren Worthington III actually grew wings as a mutant child and later used them to help the X-Men in his adulthood. When his wings were torn from him, the villain Apocalypse replaced them with techno-organic blades. Warren can fly, use his wings as a shield, and tear through metal depending on if he is in his Angel or Archangel form.
