Who Is Marvel’s Luna Snow? Powers and Origin Explained

New characters make their comic book debuts all the time. With the Marvel universe full of unique heroes and villains, it can be hard to keep track of them all — especially when they actually appear in video games before jumping to comics (and then back to video games)!

Luna Snow is one of these unique characters, like Jeff the Land Shark, who got a ton of recent traction from the hit game Marvel Rivals. But like Jeff, Luna has been around a lot longer than most fans realize. Stay frosty, because we’re breaking the ice on this music sensation turned super hero!

Luna Snow first debuted in the mobile game Marvel Future Fight in 2018.

• Marvel Future Fight is an action-RPG mobile game developed by Netmarble.
• Marvel Future Fight launched in 2015 for iOS and Android and is still supported by the developer.
• Luna Snow was introduced in a 2018 update as an original character.

Multiple Marvel characters have been introduced in the last decade after debuting in a mobile game title. Captain Carter first entered the fray in Marvel Puzzle Quest. Guillotine came from Marvel Contest of Champions. Marvel Future Fight has featured numerous original characters, the most notable being Luna Snow.

Luna Snow was introduced to the title in 2018, joining the roster of (now) over 250 heroes who can be used in this strategic, real-time combat game. The game’s developer, Netmarble, is based in South Korea and wanted to create a character who could provide meaningful representation to Asian fans. They also specifically had goals for an ice-based character whose abilities could provide healing support and offensive capabilities.

After the Future Fight introduction of Sharon Rogers, an alternate Captain America, was well-received, vice president of Marvel Games Bill Rosemann, senior producer Danny Koo, and art director Jeehyung Lee spearheaded the creation of Luna Snow.

Luna Snow’s first comic book appearance was New Agents of Atlas #1.

• War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas #1 (2019) features the first comic book appearance of Luna Snow.
• New Agents of Atlas #1 was part of the War of the Realms event, as a limited tie-in series.
• The miniseries was written by Greg Pak and pencilled by Gang Hyuk Lim.

After a year in the Marvel Games canon, Luna Snow leapt to comics with the War of the Realms event tie-in New Agents of Atlas #1. The Agents of Atlas team moniker has been used several times previously (and was used for another miniseries with the modern iteration of the team after the event book ended). In this incarnation, numerous Marvel heroes of Asian descent banded together to protect the Pacific Rim from invaders from Muspelheim during Malekith the Accursed’s assault on Midgard.

Led by Jimmy Woo, Luna teamed up with Aero, Wave, Silk, Shang-Chi, Brawn (AKA Amadeus Cho), Ms. Marvel, Crescent and Io, and White Fox. This was the first comic book publication appearance of Crescent and Io, who also originated in Marvel Future Fight, and Wave, AKA Pearl Pangan, a new water-based Filipina heroine original to this book.

The miniseries ran four issues long before continuing in Agents of Atlas Vol. 3 (which ran five issues) and concluding in Atlantis Attacks (which also ran five issues). Since then, the Agents of Atlas team has disbanded and Luna has featured in the Marvel Rivals Infinity comics, One World Under Doom: Doom’s Division, and the one-shot Luna Snow: World Tour.

The character was a K-pop idol before she became a super hero.

• Before becoming “Luna Snow,” singer Seol Hee began as a K-pop idol.
• She was raised by her grandmother after the death of her parents.
• As Luna Snow, she still balances her music career with super hero work.

Seol Hee, whose name translates to “Ice” and “Hope,” was born in Korea and raised by her grandmother after her parents died tragically while the girl was young. An aspiring singer, Seol attended the International Music School of the Gifted in order to better her talents in order to support her elderly grandmother.

Eventually, her singing and dancing talents propelled her into stardom as a South Korean pop idol whose stage name was “Luna.” However, one of her performances was attacked by A.I.M., and the incident led to her developing ice powers.

After she saved the day, the media dubbed her “Luna Snow,” which stuck around as her super hero code name! Now, she’s a full-time super hero and remains a part time pop idol when she’s not saving the world.

Seol Hee got her powers when exposed to A.I.M. experimentation.

• While performing with the idol group 4L1T, Seol Hee was taken hostage by A.I.M.
• She was trapped in a cold-fusion reactor which gave her the ability to manipulate ice.

Advanced Idea Mechanics, or A.I.M. attacked Luna’s idol group 4L1T during a performance at a Stark Industries event in Seoul, South Korea. The A.I.M. cell that attacked was led by an agent called Joro Spider, who sought to acquire Stark technology by force.

While trying to protect the attendees of the event, Seol Hee was trapped in a high-tech storage freezer. Here, she was exposed to a cold-fusion reactor experiment that altered her on a molecular level and gave her the ability to manipulate ice and induce freezing temperatures.

She used these powers to fight back against Joro Spider, defeating A.I.M. and attracting the attention of the press. They dubbed her “Luna Snow” and she became an overnight sensation.

• Luna Snow can manipulate ice, freeze bodies of water, and use ice as projectiles.
• Her powers combine destructive dark ice and healing light ice.
• She is also extremely charming and can lower enemy defenses with her charisma!
• Luna Snow speaks Korean and English, and is an exceptional dancer.

Luna Snow’s powers are of a class known as “cryokinetic,” meaning she has the ability to manipulate, generate, and control ice and cold elements. Most often, she uses icicles as projectiles and can freeze large bodies of water.

Her ice, while deeply cold, behaves as ice does and is susceptible to melting when exposed to immense heat. This proved especially challenging during War of the Realms, where she and the New Agents of Atlas faced Sindr, daughter of Surtur, from Muspelheim.

Her ice also possesses healing restorative properties, and helped form the basis for her move set in the game Marvel Rivals. Her offensive capabilities are “dark ice” and her healing abilities are “light ice.”

Available to play since the debut of Marvel Rivals, Luna Snow is a support Strategist hero whose long-range abilities can output high healing to her teammates, enhancing their abilities in battle. She also has offensive capabilities involving frost shards and ice blocks to weaken enemies.

Her ultimate ability, Fate of Both Worlds, features her singing in Korean while either granting healing to her allies or boosting their damage output. Luna Snow’s passive abilities restore her own health when casting attack moves on enemies and enable faster traversal through ice skating.

Through and through, Luna Snow is a performer who loves to make others happy, guided by a sense of compassion and justice to protect — and entertain — those in need.
