The Most Skilled Lightsaber Wielders in Star Wars
In a galaxy far, far away, lightsabers™ were a weapon for a more civilized age. The ownership of a lightsaber was quite sacred to some beings, especially those who collected the kyber crystals™ and forged the saber themselves. For others, it may simply have been a tool of ultimate destruction — yet there was still finesse in this violence.
Throughout all the movies, television shows, comics, books, and even video games, plenty of beings in the galaxy used lightsabers. But who actually used them well? Below, let’s look at the best lightsaber wielders in Star Wars™!
General Grievous
We all know how impressive it is to use a single lightsaber. Two is another story. Four, though? Now that’s just incredible. Unfortunately, General Grievous™ got all those lightsabers by killing Jedi™ and taking the sabers off their corpses. Yikes. But we can’t deny that this villain had extreme dexterity — obviously the four cybernetic arms helped — when wielding those legendary weapons.
Ahsoka Tano
Snips sure put in the work! This feisty Padawan™ started small and worked her way into becoming a fearsome warrior. Ahsoka Tano’s™ style was extremely elegant yet powerful, combining her acrobatic skills with her skillful use of dual blades. Most interestingly, Ahsoka used two differently sized lightsabers, one shorter than the other. It added a rhythm and adaptability to her combat that was formerly unseen in Star Wars.
Maul
Darth Maul™, later known simply as Maul, makes the list because of his sheer power and strength. The former Sith™ preferred to give every fight his all … to the point of self-destruction. He raged and attacked mercilessly, putting every enemy in defense mode even when they technically had the upper hand. Of course, such fiery passion was eventually his downfall in a duel against Obi-Wan Kenobi™. But it was always breathtaking to behold.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
The Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi was skilled enough to make it onto the Jedi Council™. Obi-Wan fought smart. He didn’t employ tricks or tactics like his Padawan, but rather strategized and assessed his enemies to find their weakness. Obi-Wan’s style also changed as he aged. When he was younger, he was all about visually impressive moves. In his later years, he adopted a more subdued, but no less effective, approach that won him many victories.
Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader
Whether he was wielding the light side or the dark, Anakin Skywalker™ /Darth Vader™ was pretty much unparalleled. Only his former Master could hold his own against the all-powerful apprentice. Darth Vader was cunning and ruthless in a fight. He also had that really cool little flip move that is somehow both fancy and functional. Most people’s best bet when facing down Vader as an opponent? Run the opposite direction.
Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker™ was a skilled warrior just like his father before him. Fans were lucky enough to witness Luke’s growth as a rookie in A New Hope™ to a full-fledged Jedi master in The Mandalorian™. His lightsaber battles in the original trilogy as well as the aforementioned Disney+ series are widely considered some of the best in Star Wars history. Plus, he was good enough to train later generations of Force users including Grogu™ and Kylo Ren™.
The Ronin
Inspired by historical Japanese Samurai, The Ronin from Star Wars: Visions™ was a top tier warrior because he knew when to not draw his weapon. Conflict was a necessary evil for this fighter. But it was also only utilized as a last resort. When he did draw the saber, he did it with incredible command of the blade, his style reminiscent of real-life martial arts. It was spectacular to watch in animated art form.
Rey Skywalker
Of course Rey Skywalker™ made our list. The hero who defeated Emperor Palpatine™ after being mostly self-taught deserves respect and recognition for her hard work. Rey defended the galaxy from the First Order™. She also started the trend of the yellow lightsaber. Combined with her command of the Force and understanding of her legacy, she was a total force to be reckoned with.
