When it comes to super heroes and comic books, half the battle is a good ensemble. After all, the people have to remember who’s saving them — and what better way than a flashy outfit?

However, the best Marvel Comics outfits have to offer something special, an extra kick (and swing and punch and blast). We love unforgettable color combos like Magneto’s purple and red, and who could overlook Galactus’ iconic headpiece? Plus the barely-there clothes of Namor and Silver Surfer certainly catch everyone’s eye. But the following Marvel characters are the ones who really know how to work the runway. Time to strut their stuff!

Marvel Comics’ Best Dressed Characters

Wasp

Of course, it goes without saying that Janet Van Dyne would hold a top spot in any Marvel Best Dressed List. Not only does she hold a degree in fashion design, but Wasp also has personally designed her own suits, as well as those of numerous Avengers and other heroes! Wasp’s sartorial influence reaches far and wide in the Marvel universe.

Emma Frost

Since her first appearance as a member of the Hellfire Club, Emma Frost’s fashion has always been attention grabbing. Clad in stark white with hints of fur or diamond, Emma loves a dramatic ensemble. As she became an integral member of the X-Men, she also began weaving in an X into all of her costumes — a not-so-subtle reminder that she did not come to play. In addition to her own sense of style, Emma also brought the legendary gifts of Jumbo Carnation to the forefront. Together, they instated the Hellfire Gala, an annual celebration of mutant might and mutant-human relations — and a chance for Marvel’s heroes to get fancy.

Black Panther

Attitude can help elevate someone’s style in an instant, and T’Challa’s effortless cool factor makes his appearance worthy of a king. Whether he’s at the street level fighting without his suit or up in space defending his people, Black Panther knows how to look good while doing good. His classic sleek black suit is not only a technological wonder but it is immediately recognizable. No other hero can match Black Panther’s shadowy appeal.

Scarlet Witch

While her journey as a super hero has definitely been chaotic, Wanda Maximoff has never let us down with her fashions. After all, who else could rock a wimple like that? Yes, her trademark headpiece is technically called a wimple, though it has also fluctuated into more of a tiara — fitting for such a gifted queen. Lately, Scarlet Witch has dipped into her magical skill to add an otherworldly element to her trailing hair and dress. It’s highly probable that few can measure up to Wanda’s level.

Storm

Ever since her debut, Ororo Munroe has captivated readers with her regal demeanor. And her vast range of costumes throughout the years point to a rich history of characterization, from strong new teammate to rebellious leader to Wakandan queen. Storm is at her best when she lends her mutant abilities to her wardrobe, letting tendrils of lightning crackle through her shock of white hair as wind whips around her and thunder announces her presence. Make way for the Wind Rider — or you’ll regret it.

Dazzler

Originally, Alison Blaire was based on the iconic Grace Jones. As her character went through development, Dazzler emerged as a disco queen all her own with ever-present effervescent effects and a sparkling jumpsuit. Over the years, she has worn her signature dance floor jumpsuits, a sporty headband with spiky hair, and even a few spy suits. But no matter the clothing, Dazzler always shines — and she sounds good doing it, too.

Iron Man

You gotta love a man in a sharp suit — especially when that suit can do everything Tony Stark’s suit can do! The Iron Man armor is impressive enough because of its gold and hot-rod red shine. But throughout the years, Tony continues to improve and make adjustments. The result is a literal hall’s worth of armor that documents his journey as a super hero. Plus, a suit that utilizes nanotech for heroics on the go? Genius.

Captain Marvel

If there’s one thing a good costume needs, it’s a memorable motif. Well, Carol Danvers has that down on lock. Though she has evolved through numerous forms during her super career, a star of Hala is often the centerpiece of her look. This symbol not only represents Captain Marvel’s powers but also the complicated Kree lineage that grants her such power. Whether she’s wearing the black and yellow Ms. Marvel suit, the red and white Binary costume, or her modern blue, yellow, and red, the sight of Captain Marvel’s star racing across the sky will always bring a sense of peace.

Spider-Man

This one is a dual award, shared by Miles Morales and Peter Parker. Throughout Spider-Man’s long-spinning legacy, he has always sported an impressive web of designs. Each suit matches not only the needs of specific battles but his suits are also a reflection of who he is at that moment. Peter’s legendary black suit would herald the arrival of Venom into the Marvel Universe and he’s even integrated components of his enemies over the years, like Doc Ock and Green Goblin. On the other hand, Miles’ Spider-suit always pays homage to the young man’s personal style, utilizing hoodies and sneakers as he swings across the rooftops.

Mystique

C’mon, you knew we couldn’t leave out the Deceptrix of Disguises herself, Mystique! If anyone can pull of any look, it’s Raven Darkhölme. Not but like really, she can pull off literally any look. With her shapeshifting power, Mystique can change into any of the above heroes as well as her own creations. Her skin functions as the clothing itself which is pretty mind-boggling (don’t think about it too hard). Besides, if we didn’t include Mystique in here, she’d probably track us down for a little chat.
