She Sees The Truth: Supergirl Teaser Trailer Breakdown

Look out — the Supergirl official teaser trailer has finally landed! This highly anticipated follow-up to James Gunn’s Superman (2025) features his wild child cousin and her unruly animal companion, Krypto. But this certainly isn’t a princess movie. Who’s who in the Supergirl trailer?

Kara Zor-El/Supergirl (Milly Alcock) dominates the trailer, obviously. But the teaser begins with Krypto the Super-Dog accidentally kicking off his mama’s theme song. Blondie’s “Call Me” blasts through what is presumably Kara’s home, full of litter, malfunctioning electronics, and remnants of parties past. Kara proves herself to be just as questionable a puppy parent as she was in the Superman end credits when she praises Krypto’s uh, aim. And then the fun begins.

Supergirl’s most notable new cast member is Eve Ridley. Wielding a sword and bearing the cadence of a warrior, Eve plays Ruthye Marye Knoll. In the Woman of Tomorrow comics, Ruthye travels across the cosmos in order to exact revenge on the man who murdered her father. (Matthias Schoenaerts plays this murderer, Krem of the Yellow Hills.) In this way, Supergirl seems to be playing around with the “jaded, gruff dad adopts a gifted girl” trope. Yes, please!

Lobo

Blink and you’ll miss him, but here’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for! Grungy and mostly hidden in shadow, Jason Momoa makes his debut as Lobo in the Supergirl trailer. Just based on lighting and blocking alone, he’s set up as an antagonist. But the new DCU loves to subvert expectations, so don’t bet yet. Still, it’d be cool to see a Supergirl versus Lobo showdown.

Where is Supergirl set?

Based on this first footage, Supergirl is a planet-trotting adventure! Across these two minutes, we see Kara traveling on intergalactic public transit to shady bars. Plus, the teaser shows flashbacks to Krypton itself. In a heartbreaking line, Kara explains that planets do not die in a day. Most likely, we will see the suffering and infinite sorrow that has shaped her into the cynical 23 year old she is now. If you catch her, Alura In-Ze (Emily Beecham), Supergirl’s mom, can be seen in a couple frames.

With Ruthye at her side, Supergirl gets into a few street brawls, escapes dark hallways through big windows, and flies far above the clouds. Kryptonians can only fly on planets with gravity similar to planet Earth — so is she floating above Earth itself, or within another solar system safe for humans? Who really cares when she’s swinging that massive mace at all her enemies. Hello, coolest girl alive!

What is Supergirl about?

DC’s trailer pitch reads: When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, AKA Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice. Now, is that adversary Krem, Lobo, Brute (Wil Coban), or someone else entirely? With only clips and montages to scrub through, we aren’t getting the easiest answers. But that’s the thrill of a teaser trailer, after all.

When does Supergirl hit theaters?

This first teaser trailer ends with Supergirl’s logo. According to DC, Supergirl premieres in theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. So, expect a few more trailers and reveals between now and June, July, or August 2026. According to that “filmed in IMAX” tagline, you’ll want to head to the biggest silver screen in your area for this one.
