Everything You Need to Know About The Ballerina Eve Macarro

By Jasmine Edwards on Nov 7, 2025

Reports are in, and From The World of John Wick: Ballerina ruled the summer as the hottest action-adventure movie. It’s got everything you could want from a neon noir thriller: flamethrowers, exciting cameos, and insane kills with ice skates.

Plus, Ballerina stars Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro. Action fans will recognize Ana de Armas from the James Bond film No Time To Die (2021) as well as the 2019 comedy Knives Out. A versatile actress with a great knack for learning choreography, she’s the perfect fit for Ballerina. Let’s learn more about her character below.

Eve Macarro is a Kikimora assassin

Just like many mercenaries, Eve Macarro keeps her past a secret. Yet the weight of it is always on her shoulders. Both Eve’s parents are murdered by Cultists under the orders of their Chancellor. Afterwards, Winston Scott of the New York Continental offers her sanctuary and then delivers her to a new organization to be trained as an assassin herself.

Though Eve struggles, she devotes herself to the work. When the time comes to pass the final test, she almost allows her emotions to stop her — but her thirst for revenge wins out. Killing the former Kikimora, Eve claims her place as the newest and deadliest member of her organization.

She is also a Ruska Roma ballerina

The Ruska Roma are one of 12 organizations who hold a seat at the High Table, a council of crime lords. Governing all the world’s crime organizations, they are split into factions and families who often develop blood feuds with one another. In fact, John Wick’s own oath to a Table member even causes him to be excommunicated and on the run. But John’s allegiance is first and foremost to the Ruska Roma, a large group of Russian and Romani criminals operating for their own interests in the seedy underbelly of Germany.

Well, it’s all in the family. As you’ll recall, John Wick is also part of the Ruska Roma. The Director is his adopted mother. The Director also trains and nurtures Eve, which almost makes her and John siblings. But the first time they meet is shrouded in mystery. In John Wick 3 — Parabellum (2019), John returns to his “home” organization in order to demand their assistance in his mission. He catches a glimpse of a tattooed ballerina performing onstage for The Director. Although we don’t see her face, that’s Eve up there!

Ballerina is the fifth installment in the John Wick franchise

John Wick (2014) stars Keanu Reeves as a legendary hitman who comes out of retirement. Forced out by a brutal incident following the death of his wife, John works his way through the Russian mob, exacting vengeance in increasingly creative ways. The film received high praise for its stunts and action sequences. So, director Chad Stahelski expanded the universe. The three follow-up John Wick movies greatly expanded the lore with sprawling mercenary networks, secret organizations, and international intrigue — plus incredibly trained dogs.

It is a “sidequel” or spin-off from the original movies

Now Ballerina takes center stage. But it’s also a detour. The spin-off film occurs during John Wick 3 — Parabellum and before the events of Chapter 4 (2024), which have left the franchise forever altered. We won’t spoiler it here if you haven’t seen it. Though, you definitely should. Might we suggest a marathon before you catch Ballerina in theaters?
