Spider-Man & Mary Jane’s Upside-Down Kiss

Thanks to No Way Home, multiple versions of Spider-Man now exist within the MCU — including this iconic upside-down rainy kiss. Spider-Man always grapples with his alter ego and how to keep his everyday relationships in balance. At the crux of that conflict is the woman who nearly every version of Peter Parker loves: Mary Jane Watson. In their live-action debut in 2002, their love was a bit of a slow burn.

In fact, this Mary Jane fell for the super hero first, rather than the nerd. This stolen kiss, with MJ pulling down Peter’s mask just enough, laid the foundation to build their enduring love. For a moment, the busy sounds of the city and the pattering raindrops disappear. All that exists is their kiss. The scene itself is often imitated but never truly replicated. That kind of passion is hard to come by, even in a neighborhood as big as the Marvel Multiverse.

Tony Stark’s Shrapnel Necklace for Pepper Potts

Even with all the AI support in the world, Iron Man would have been a few circuits short of a properly motivated repulsor without Pepper Potts. So what does one give their truest love to show their devotion? A literal piece of their heart, of course. In Iron Man 3, Tony gives Pepper a necklace made of the shrapnel that was around his heart. Cue light-up, jet-propelled swooning.

Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter’s Endgame Slow Dance

It’s been a long, long time coming that Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter finally got that slow dance. Following Thanos’ defeat in Endgame, Steve sees the opportunity he thought he would never have: to return to his own time. Though he leaves behind many friends, he knows that Agent Carter will be waiting for him back in the 1940s.

While other parts of the MCU were ramping up in their grief and their rebuilding, Captain America was slowing down. We get a glimpse of Cap’s idyllic suburban life with Peggy. Within the shingled frame of their home’s window, we get to see them dance together, swaying in loving embrace, to their song from all those years ago. That’s America’s slow dance.

Color (and Babies!) Arrive in WandaVision

Don’t touch that dial! We’ve got a televised special full of shocking reveals, warped reality, and one very chaotic family. As a means of coping after Vision’s death, Wanda Maximoff creates a fictional version of the New Jersey town Westview. She fills it with all the details she loved from her favorite sitcoms as a child. Her magic creates a place safe from the outside world — and full of love.

In Wanda’s Westview, Vision is alive and well. All the neighbors play their part and the biggest danger is pulling off dinner at the last minute. At first, Wanda’s world is cast in black and white, an ode to the simpler life Wanda longs to lead. However, after a passionate kiss with Vision, color sweeps into Westview. Plus, this is the exact moment when Wanda conceives Billy and Tommy, her twin sons. Watching Wanda use her own powers to soothe her broken heart is a touching experience, even if her magically high ratings can’t last forever.

Rio Vidal Lays Flowers for Agatha Harkness

Speaking of magic, at last we come to Agatha Harkness, the witch who terrorizes Wanda, and Rio Vidal, AKA Death herself. While her actions are undoubtedly evil, and she barely sticks by her “friends,” it’s hard not to root for Agatha. There’s something diabolically endearing about this crafty witch. You can’t really call her a girl’s girl since she steals the powers of every coven she forms, but she is certainly Rio’s girl. Yet a romance with Death will always end in tears.

It would be easy to pick their final kiss as the most romantic moment between Agatha and Rio, the kiss she uses to save Wanda’s son Billy and give up her immunity to death. However, the true romance comes at Agatha’s burial, overseen by Rio in her traditional cloaked form. For the viewers who were paying attention all along, Rio constantly brought flowers into Agatha’s life. She was, after all, the original Green Witch. So as Agatha’s body is laid to rest (don’t worry, her spirit continues to raise hell elsewhere), Rio gives her love one last bloom. A cascade of soft lilac petals erupts over Agatha’s decomposing body. It’s Rio’s last farewell to the love that defied Death’s rules at every turn.
