DC Universe Casts Swamp Thing Himself, Netflix’s Last Days of American Crime Begins Production, and More!

DC Universe has cast both Swamp Thing and his human alter ego Alec Holland for the upcoming Swamp Thing live-action series. Actor Andy Bean will play Holland, a biologist, while actor Derek Mears will play the title creature himself. The Swamp Thing live-action series will stream exclusively on DC Universe in 2019.

Actor James Wolk has been cast in a major recurring role in HBO’s upcoming Watchmen series, based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ iconic comic series. There is no word on who he will be playing, but he joins previously announced cast members like Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Tim Blake Nelson, and more. Watchmen is expected to premiere on HBO in 2019.

Oscar-winning director Chris Williams is set to write and direct an animated film for Netflix called Jacob and the Sea Beast. Williams is known for his previous work on Disney films such as Moana and Big Hero Six. Jacob and the Sea Beast will tell the story of a sailor who discovers an unlikely ally in a sea monster. The film will be released on Netflix in 2022.

Writer Rick Remender has tweeted the first official look at the upcoming Netflix film Last Days of American Crime. Based on the dystopian comic series of the same name, the film follows a criminal who tries to pull one last heist before the US government eliminates all crime. Edgar Ramirez and Anna Brewster are set to star in Last Days of American Crime, which will stream on Netflix in 2019.
