Geek Headlines – December 14th 2017

Here are today’s headlines from the world of geek news.

Disney has officially reached a historic deal with 21st Century Fox to purchase most of the assets from the big media company, which currently has 36 television shows in production including Modern Family and The Simpsons. Fox is also behind certain Marvel film properties, as well as the hit film Avatar. Fox News and FS1 sports are not included in Disney’s acquisitions.

Tonight’s the night! December 14th is the US theatrical opening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Initial reviews have called the film as a strong addition to the Star Wars saga, and critics have been praising Rian Johnson’s directorial skills.

Netflix released its official list of shows and movies that are arriving on the streaming service in January 2018. Among the newly streaming movies are Batman Returns, King Kong, and The Godfather, while Futurama, Gremlins, and E.T. the Extra-Terestrial will all leave Netflix next month.

The epic fantasy adventure film The Dark Crystal will be returning to select theaters for two nights in February 2018. Participating locations will be revealed on January 12, 2018, and the movie will be shown with a new featurette that honors the film’s creative legacy.
