Last of Us Actor To Reprise Her Role

HBO has added another to the cast of their upcoming series adaptation of Naughty Dog’s popular video game The Last of Us.

They’ve added Merle Dandridge to play the role of Marlene. Dandridge is actually the original voice actor and motion capture performer for the character in Naughty Dog’s original game. She will be reprising her role, though it’s unclear how she will be adapted to the screen.

In the game, Marlene is the head of the Fireflies, a resistance movement struggling for freedom against an oppressive military regime. She is Ellie’s surrogate mother and eventually, the final antagonist of the first game. It’s unclear if she’ll play an antagonistic role in the series.

Naughty Dog shared the news, and Dandridge herself retweeted multiple reactions to the announcement.

The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal (STAR WARS™: The Mandalorian) as Joel, and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Ellie. Gabriel Luna (Ghost Rider in Marvel‘s Agents of SHIELD, Terminator) will play Tommy, Joel’s younger brother. The writer and creative director of the original games, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, will write the script. Jasmila Zbanic and Ali Abbasi are also attached to direct the series.

There is no release date for HBO Max’s The Last Of Us at this time.
