Stay InsideShow Pop Culture Picks – Day 3
Due to social distancing, many of us have found ourselves with more time inside than usual. Many of our schedules have changed, giving us the opportunity to try new things. As fans of pop culture ourselves, Sideshow’s Staff is happy to share a few suggestions to help you fill your newfound time with high quality content.
To help encourage everyone to Stay Insideshow, every day this week we will be recommending one film/series, one comic/book, one board game, and one video game that you can enjoy while you practice safe social distancing. These picks are the best of the best, curated and personally suggested by our very geeky staff.

The Expanse (Amazon Prime Video)
Two hundred years in the future, in a fully colonized solar system, a police detective, who was born in the asteroid belt, is given the assignment to find a missing young woman. Meanwhile, the first officer of an ice freighter, is witness to an unprovoked attack upon the ship, by craft believed to be from Mars. As news of the attack spreads throughout the system, the incident’s flow-on threatens to destabilize already tenuous relations between Earth, Mars and The Belt.

I highly recommend reading Hellboy/B.P.R.D. comics.
It’s a wonderful universe in which every mythology is real, and all intertwined as part of one vast narrative.
In the core Hellboy books with Mike Mignola’s gorgeous art and the spin-off B.P.R.D. team series, they face both episodic one off adventures that can be read in any order, to the overarching story with world shattering consequences.
The characters and themes are some of my favorite in all of pop culture, so get to reading it!
I would start with Hellboy Omnibus v1 if you want to get into the big story, but Hellboy: The Complete Short Stories V1 & 2 are a fun and easy read.

Asymmetrial/thematicImagine you can control the forces of a noble family, guild, or religious order on a barren planet which is the only source for the most valuable substance in the known universe.
Imagine you can rewrite the script for one of the most famous science fiction books of all time. Welcome to the acclaimed 40-year-old board game which allows you to recreate the incredible world of Frank Herbert’s DUNE.
In DUNE you will become the leader of one of six great factions. Each wishes to control the most valuable resource in the universe – , the mysterious spice only found at great cost on the planet DUNE. As Duke Leto Atreides says “All fades before melange. A handful of spice will buy a home on Tupile. It cannot be manufactured, it must be mined on Arrakis. It is unique and it has true geriatric properties.” And without melange space travel would be impossible. Only by ingesting the addictive drug can the Guild Steersman continue to experience visions of the future, enabling them to plot a safe path through hyperspace.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Available on PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Nintendo Switch)
I recommend this game because of it’s beautiful graphics, immersive story, memorable characters, and in-depth quests. I also highly recommend both DLC expansions – Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone. The game has some of the best story-telling of any RPG game and you’ll find yourself fully immersed within a lore-rich world.
This game is recommended for a more mature audience.
