The Boys: Soldier Boy Revealed

Sunday, June 6th, actor Jensen Ackles shared the first look at the design of his upcoming character in Amazon Prime’s superhero series The Boys. He shared a close up image of just the character’s shield.

The shield is an embossed bald eagle with a star at its breast. It appears that the symbolism is meant to align with the ideals or wartime America. Ackles shared the image with this caption:

Every dent, every scratch, every mark tells a story. A story that ends with me, winning. 😏

And just like Ackles teased, the costume was shared today.  The Boys official social media channels shared with the caption, “He’s the f’n Captain now, America.”

In an interview with Variety, costume designer Laura Jean Shannon talked about the costume design. She said the following:

Our goal was to highlight a bygone era of overt masculinity and grit. With that pedigree we dove headfirst into baking in an all-American quality grounded in a military soldier’s practicality with a heavy dose of old school cowboy swagger. We knew that the actor had to have Steve McQueen looks and chops with a John Wayne attitude — luckily Jensen Ackles embodies all of that.

The costume features an eagle spread across his chest. He wears moss and maroon colored armor, with combat gear draped around his bulletproof vest. The shield hugs his form, and matches the emblem on his shoulder. Ackles sports a beard for the role, making him appear more gritty.

Amazon Studios’ The Boys stars Karl Urban (Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Marvel‘s Thor) as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid (Star Trek) as Hughie, Antony Starr as Homelander, Erin Moriarty (Marvel‘s Jessica Jones) as Annie January, Dominique McElligot as Maggie Shaw, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Laz Alonso (Avatar) as Mother’s Milk, Chace Crawford as The Deep, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara (DC Comics‘ Suicide Squad, Masters of the Universe: She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) as Kimiko, and now Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) as Soldier Boy.

Seasons 3 of The Boys has no premiere date at this time.
