The Matrix: Resurrections Release Date

Warner Bros. has officially announced the title and the release date for the fourth film in The Matrix series. It will be called The Matrix: Resurrections.

The title was revealed during CinemaCon, where they revealed footage featuring quite a few returning and new characters. Details on the film are still scarce, but the name Resurrections certainly suggests an interesting plot line.

The Matrix series follows the story of Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus as they work to free humanity from a virtual reality artificial intelligence system that feeds off of mankind itself. The first film was released in 1999, with the second and third film getting released in 2003.

There have been video game adaptations, anime short films, comic books, and more, all exploring the world of the Matrix but largely, the main story has remained unchanged. This fourth film will explore the Matrix Universe in a completely new way.

The Matrix: Resurrections is written and directed by Lana Wachowski. The film stars Keanu Reeves as Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, and also features Christina Ricci, Jessica Henwick, Ellen Hollman, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jada Pinkett Smith.

The Matrix: Resurrections will shoot into theaters and onto HBO Max on December 22.
