Let Your Geek Sideshow presents… Then & Now– a pop culture podcast!
This week, we’re going somewhere over the rainbow to look back on 80 years since the 1939 adaptation of The Wizard of Oz made film screens everywhere a little more vibrant. Inspired by the classic children’s novel, this musical film has found its way into the hearts of many generations and still serves as inspiration for artists, filmmakers, and storytellers today.
There’s no place like home, and Land of Oz has proved time and again that it is home not only to fantastical creatures and characters, but it serves as a familiar place for countless fans across every adaptation and generation. It has been brought to life over and over through numerous additional novels, films, comic books, and even record-shattering Broadway productions.
Beloved by many, The Wizard of Oz serves as a quintessential American fairytale, giving us the brains, heart, and courage to face our fears and follow our dreams. Sometimes we find the man behind the curtain, and the witch isn’t always as wicked as she seems, but through it all, each and every version of this classic story makes the world a more colorful place.
Put on your ruby slippers and ease on down the road because we’re off to see The Wizard of Oz, Then & Now.
