Tsuneo Sanda biography image

Tsuneo Sanda was born in Osaka and currently resides in Tokyo, Japan.

Sanda first discovered his love for art at the age of 7, and his early idols include Rembrandt, Rene Magritte, Paul Davis and Robert Peak. He launched his career running his own advertising firm while creating original artwork in his spare time. After winning the top prize in a Japanese science fiction art competition, he came to the attention of New York-based OMNI magazine, and in 1989 the magazine began featuring his work as cover art on a number of its issues.

In the years that followed, Sanda began producing more science-fiction and fantasy art including many comic covers. Since 2008 Tsuneo Sanda has dedicated himself full time to artwork painting, and has become widely recognized and celebrated as an official Lucasfilm and Disney artist with pieces depicting characters from Star Wars, Marvel, and more.

"I aim at ever higher degrees of perfection in my quest to recreate what I visualize. I continuously strive to create paintings in which viewers from different cultural backgrounds and value systems can share a sense of common empathy. I hope my artwork will be loved by as many people in the world as possible.”
