7 Funniest Scott Pilgrim Quotes from the Show + Movie

By Sideshow on Nov 24, 2023

In 2004, Bryan Lee O’Malley and Oni Press released the very first issue of Scott Pilgrim. It tells the story of a 23-year-old bassist who falls in love with a delivery girl named Ramona Flowers. But, there’s a catch. If Scott wants to date Ramona, he’ll have to fight each of her seven evil exes.

Well, the story was a hit! Both a movie and a video game adaptation were released in August 2010. And just last week, on November 17, Netflix released an anime adaptation. So, let’s look through the show and the movie. After all, if there were seven evil exes — there are certainly seven hilarious quotes.

** WARNING: THIS BLOG HAS MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR BOTH SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD AND SCOTT PILGRIM TAKES OFF. OH, YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT SPOILERS? WHATEVER...**

“We are Sex Bob-Omb and we are here to make you think about death and get sad and stuff!” – Scott Pilgrim

Who would Scott Pilgrim be without his music? In fact, what would the show or the movie be without its iconic soundtrack? Well, his band might suck, but it’s hard to tell. They really don’t get to play too many songs before the whole “fighting the League of Evil Exes” thing sort of takes the stage. Still, the band always gets a pretty funny introduction.

“Short answer: Being vegan just makes you better than most people.” – Envy Adams

Envy Adams, played by Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), is dating Todd Ingrim, played by Brandon Routh (Superman Returns). Without a doubt, this is one of the most complicated webs in the story. See, Envy Adams used to date Scott Pilgrim. And, to make it more complicated, Todd Ingrim used to date Ramona Flowers. Now, Scott has to fight Todd just so he can date Ramona! Unfortunately, Todd has vegan superpowers. That certainly doesn’t make the fight any easier.

“I’m in lesbians with you.” – Scott Pilgrim

The whole movie centers around Ramona Flowers, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress in DC’s Birds of Prey, Hera Syndulla™Â in Star Wars: Ahsoka). And now, Scott has finally summoned the courage to express how he truly feels about her. It’s a moment we’ve all been waiting for. But of course, he flubs it. That’s not exactly the L-word he was looking for.

“He’s been described as, quote, the best fighter in the province, unquote.” – Gideon Graves

Gideon Graves, played by Jason Schwartzman (Spot in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), has planned a secret society. They are the League of Evil Exes! And yes, they’ve formed due to their undying love for Ramona Flowers. So, when Matthew Patel is summoned by their leader, Gideon Graves, they plan the attack. Matthew is trying to size up Scott Pilgrim. Undoubtedly, it’s important to know how good of a fighter Scott would be. Luckily, Gideon has been doing his research.

“I couldn’t even get a reservation at McDonald’s. They laughed at me when I called.” – Gordon Goose

Gideon Graves lost everything. How? Well, Matthew Patel defeated him in legally binding combat. Matthew became the powerful CEO with multiple record labels, 14 shelters, and unbelievable wealth. Gideon goes groveling away and goes to the one person who might remember his true self. As it turns out, Gideon Graves was just a persona. After losing everything, all of his billionaire friends won’t talk to him. Not even his millionaire friends respond! So he becomes his true self once again. He’s Gordon Goose.

“Have you acted before?”
“I considered it, but I was worried I’d be too good at it.” – Wallace Wells

After Young Neil appears to write a screenplay in his sleep, production begins on his new film Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life. It’s an “alternate timeline” where Scott Pilgrim wins the fight against the seven evil exes. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Well, when Wallace Wells makes his way to the set of the film, he turns his charisma up to 11. Even the director can’t help but notice!

“What the hell? No fights? No kissing? This finale sucks…” – Scott Pilgrim

Finally, Scott and Ramona are back together. But, despite everything she’s been through, something still isn’t right. There’s a magical barrier between their lips, and they can’t even kiss! Clearly, it must be the work of the seven evil exes. Except, at this point, all the exes are now friends, and they’ve gone through quite a bit of emotional healing. Even Lucas Lee, played by Chris Evans (Captain America), has put aside his antics! So then, what the hell is Scott supposed to do?!

Were you expecting the twist in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off? While we’re at it, what’s your favorite quote from this list? What other quotes from the movie or series make you laugh?
