By Sideshow on Dec 10, 2020

Have you metĀ Atomic Misfit?

This inclusive new collectibles and lifestyle brand creates and curates everything wild, weird, whimsical, and wondrous to inspire you and your individual style. This one’s for all the chic, unique, and misfit geeks!

Every month, we will be sharing a spotlight of curated items chosen by a member of theĀ Atomic MisfitĀ team so you can get to know a little bit more about how we choose our favorite items to feature under the Atomic Misfit umbrella.

This month, Jasmine E. from the Social Media team returns to share even more Atomic picks- from the realms of Marvel, DC, and music.

(To see Jasmine’s previous curations, check out our September 2020 feature!)

Please (re-)introduce yourself to our audience!

I’m Jasmine. I’m a member of the Social Team, and while I’m new to this department, I’ve been involved with Sideshow for a few years now!

What would you say are your three favorite pop culture fandoms/licenses?

1. DC

My uncle was a huge comic fan and introduced me to Batman when I was pretty young. He was so cool with his all-black outfit and unique brand of justice; I was in love. Years later, I watched Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. It was the film that made me a film fan, that made me appreciate cinematic storytelling, that made me want to work in the entertainment industry. To this day, The Dark Knight remains one of my favorite movies of all time, Nolan remains my favorite director, and Heath Ledger’s Joker is to me the paragon of comic book movie villains.

2. Marvel

As with DC, Marvel Comics were also a part of my youth. The first comic book film I ever saw was the original X-Men with Hugh Jackman. Nestled into the couch with my dog at my side, I watched Wolverine cage fight, Rogue run away from home, and Jean Grey become a no-nonsense feminist icon. The original X-Men trilogy is a huge source of nostalgia for me in my geeky adult life.

3. BTS

Music is an integral part of my life. I sing and act, and briefly considered a career onstage. Even now, I listen to music all day while I work, hum while I run errands, and collect my favorite albums on CD. A day without music just doesn’t happen in my life! Also, recently I moved and was feeling kind of down and lonely without my sister, but we connected across the country with our newfound love for the incredible band BTS! Their lyrics are all about loving yourself and being happy. I definitely encourage everyone to give them a listen.

What from our catalogue would you recommend for likeminded collectors? What personally inspires you?

Recommendation #1: Dark Phoenix Rebirth Bishoujo Statue (Kotobukiya)- This girl is fire- literally! Well. I guess not literally, ā€˜cause those aren’t actual flames, but they sure look like it! I love this statue. She’s got so much personality, the colors are insanely vibrant, and it’s a great representation of my favorite X-Men character.

Recommendation #2: The Joker (Bank Robber Version) Action Figure (Beast Kingdom)– Look at this little cutie! I can’t believe Beast Kingdom managed to make this terrifying villain into an adorably articulated addition to my Dark Knight collection. The details on this piece are incredible for the scale. The Joker looks great sitting on my desk with my other DC Comics collectibles!

Recommendation #3: The Most Beautiful Moment In Life- BTS Universe Designer Toys (Blitzway)– Anyone who knows me knows I’m head over heels for anything BTS related recently! These Designer Toys are no exception. Full of life, personality, and style, they represent a band I love and are just radiating happiness. I can’t help but smile when I look at them. Also, the proximity bases that connect all these BTS Designer Toys make for a wonderful story to tell on your shelf.
