Assembling the 10 Best Avengers: Age of Ultron Quotes

By Nick Cimarusti on Feb 20, 2026

This article covers the best quotes from the MCU movie Avengers: Age of Ultron.

It’s now been over a decade since Avengers: Age of Ultron hit theaters. Feeling older than Asgard yet? Not to worry — there’s still a lot to love about this classic Marvel Cinematic Universe team-up.

Throwing aside the incessant Joss Whedon humor, Age of Ultron is actually very important to the MCU pantheon. Key players are added to Avengers team lore, the original lineup evolves from work allies to teammates, and an entire city falls from the sky. And now, Ultron is even returning in the 2026 Marvel TV series VisionQuest, the final chapter of the WandaVision/Agatha All Along trilogy.

Here’s a look back at the 10 best Avengers: Age of Ultron quotes, from the funny to the serious.

  • “I see a suit of armor around the world.” – Tony Stark
  • “Language!” – Captain America
  • “That’s not a question I need answered.” – Natasha Romanoff
  • “I really miss the days when the weirdest thing science ever created was me.” – Steve Rogers
  • “When the dust settles, the only living thing in this world will be metal.” – Ultron
  • “You didn’t see that coming?” – Pietro Maximoff
  • “But if you step out that door, you are an Avenger.” – Hawkeye
  • “Ultron can’t see the difference between saving the world and destroying it. Where do you think he gets that from?” –  Wanda Maximoff
  • “If he can wield the hammer, he can keep the stone.” – Thor
  • “Yes … but a thing isn’t beautiful because it lasts.” – Vision

“Language!” – Captain America

Compared to his teammates, Steve Rogers is a bit old-fashioned. A square, perhaps. Captain America has a strict moral code of conduct and holds himself to a high standard — making it all the more funnier when he chastises Tony for using foul language.

“I see a suit of armor around the world.” – Tony Stark

Innovation can lead the world into new, unforeseen progress. On the other hand, it can also have dire unforeseen consequences. Tony Stark envisions world peace via a “suit of armor around the world,” an admirable idea in theory since he hopes to prevent another evil extraterrestrial invasion. But giving that suit of armor a consciousness proves to be a horrific mistake.

“That’s not a question I need answered.” – Natasha Romanoff

At an Avengers party, some of the heroes wonder who would be worthy of lifting Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. Many of the men boast and posture for each other, claiming they have what it takes. None of them do except for Cap, whose efforts slightly nudge the hammer and give Thor a reason to sweat. When asked if she wants to try, Nat gives the most self-respecting answer possible.

“I really miss the days when the weirdest thing science ever created was me.” – Steve Rogers

Back in the 1940s, the Super Soldier Serum was cutting edge technology. The serum’s effects still hold up today in making Captain America an impressive hero, but since his origin story there have been many other super-powered beings brought into existence — for better or for worse. And sometimes, both!

“When the dust settles, the only thing living in this world will be metal.” – Ultron

According to Ultron’s twisted perspective, there’s only way humanity can find peace — and that’s in extinction. Once he’s finally free of the strings placed upon him by Stark and Bruce Banner, Ultron is free to impose his peace upon the world. There’s certainly not a lot of goodwill toward men in his plan but he does promise lots of metal.

“Ultron can’t see the difference between saving the world and destroying it. Where do you think he gets that?” – Wanda Maximoff

Wanda Maximoff is the queen of heartbroken zingers, but she’s also not afraid to point out the flaws of her peers. Especially since she started off as an outsider to the Avengers, she has a more objective view of Tony Stark’s ego.

“If he can wield the hammer, he can keep the stone.” – Thor

Finally, an answer to that hammer question! When Vision arrives on the scene, he must convince the Avengers he is an ally rather than a threat. What better way to do that than by effortlessly picking up Mjolnir? You can’t code that kind of worthiness.

“You didn’t see that coming?” – Pietro Maximoff

As much as his speedy antics are annoying to Hawkeye, this is a light-hearted moment for Pietro Maximoff, AKA Quicksilver. Whereas Wanda is intense and brooding, Pietro provides balance to his twin with his smirking humor. It’s too bad he wasn’t just a tiny bit faster in the end.

“But if you step out that door, you are an Avenger.” – Hawkeye

Though he gets a lot of grief for being a normie among super-powered heroes, Hawkeye delivers one of the best motivational speeches in MCU history to a young Scarlet Witch. She’s unsure of her place among the Avengers, having very recently been a pawn of Hydra and then Ultron. But once she exits that door and blasts her way into battle, there’s no looking back for this hero in the making.

“Yes … but a thing isn’t beautiful because it lasts.” – Vision

Ever the philosopher, Vision confronts Ultron. As the dust settles from all the destruction, Vision and Ultron grapple with their nature. They’re both creations of humans. And humans, for all their flaws, are inevitably doomed as Ultron sees it. So why submit to their organic whims? Vision insists there’s beauty in those flaws … before blasting Ultron into oblivion.

Bonus Post-Credits Quote: “Fine, I’ll do it myself.” – Thanos

You can’t discuss Age of Ultron and not mention this chilling post-credits scene. It’s a brilliant piece of an overarching story, hinting at how the puzzle of the Infinity Saga would all fit together right into the palm of Thanos‘ gloved hand.
