Every Confirmed Star Wars Character on Jabba’s Barge

What’s the best way to flaunt wealth, power, and prestige? Buy a boat! Jabba the Hutt’s luxury sail barge, the Khetanna, was a status symbol in Star Wars™. Manufactured by Ubrikkian, the barge was almost 100 feet in length. In order to maintain Jabba’s security upon the vessel, it also included heavy blaster cannon and a large, armed crew made up of Gamorrean guards and more.

It was also a pleasurable pursuit that helped the crimelord pass away sandy days on the planet Tatooine. An invite to Jabba’s barge was undoubtedly coveted by many of Tatooine’s crimelords and admirers. The Khetanna fit 500 passengers and 26 crew. This barge held additional space for musical equipment and live entertainment. Why keep the party confined to the palace walls when you could take it on the road? Plus, why limit murder methods to monsters that only lived in the dungeon?

When Jabba the Hutt hit the road to visit the sarlacc pit, he did so with a massive entourage who had an exclusive, all-access invitation to Luke Skywalker’s execution. They passed the time by playing cards, eating, drinking, dancing —  you name it! But who were all the beings present when that barge went up (and down)? Let’s meet them below.

Jabba the Hutt, Salacious B. Crumb, and Bib Fortuna

Of course, Jabba the Hutt sat on the throne surrounded by Jawas and other Tatooine natives. He had the prime vantage point for watching his prisoners die. The lizard-monkey Salacious B. Crumb lurked nearby to act as a chaotic court jester of sorts. Eventually, he also attacked C-3PO. Bib Fortuna aided Jabba the Hutt in keeping Princess Leia compliant. Of the three villains, only Bib Fortuna survived the barge explosion.

Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa, Lando Calrissian, and Chewbacca

Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca actually didn’t go on the barge until much later. For the journey across the sand dunes, the three prisoners stood on a smaller transport vehicle. Because they were prisoners, they did not get to join the festivities. Lando Calrissian, disguised as a skiff guard, also joined his allies on the small ship. Together they overlooked the plank that led to the dangerous sarlacc pit.

Princess Leia Organa, however, was held captive inside the Khetanna. Jabba the Hutt forced her to wear new clothing and a large chain around her neck. Leia took every opportunity to watch her friends out of the barge’s many rectangular windows instead of spending her time by Jabba’s sluggish side.

Don’t forget the droids!

C-3PO and R2-D2 also joined our heroes on the barge. Deceptively bartered by Luke Skywalker as a false gift for Jabba, R2 successfully infiltrated the staff and was on drinks duty. Someone aboard the barge even modified him to carry drink trays around his domed astromech head. Later, he helped save the day by revealing Luke Skywalker’s hidden lightsaber. Meanwhile, C-3PO walked around being anxious before serving as an announcer.

Boba Fett

Boba Fett was a bounty hunter. He also protected and fought for Jabba the Hutt when the need arose. Such need did indeed arise on the barge when the prisoners staged a dramatic breakout. However, Han Solo bested Boba Fett in combat due to the mercenary’s unstable jetpack. Although Boba Fett fell into the sarlacc pit, he survived. Years later, he crawled out and established his rule over Mos Espa.

Kithaba and Pagetti Rook

Kithaba was a Klatooinian criminal. He wore a red headband and a menacing expression at all times. Kithaba helped load prisoners onto the ships and keep them in check alongside a couple Weequay pirates. Most notable among the Weequay was Pagetti Rook. Little is known about him, although he did push Luke Skywalker toward the pit using an intimidating axe.

Vizam

Vizam was a gunner on the barge who utilized an antipersonnel laser cannon in order to strike down enemies. Also a known criminal, he was a Kajain’sa’Nikto, or Red Nikto. In the end, Luke Skywalker struck Vizam down — but the scaly scoundrel put up a good fight!

Klaatu

Klaatu was a Kadas’sa’Nikto, or Green Nikto, from Kintan. One of Jabba’s many henchman, Klaatu excelled at skiff maintenance. He repaired and prepared the barge for desert travel. Luke Skywalker fended off Klaatu and another guard aboard a small ship. When he and Leia swung over to their heroes, they pointed a cannon at the deck and used it to destroy the vessel.

Wooof

Surprise, surprise! Jabba’s got another smuggler and criminal in tow. Wooof was among the many notorious henchmen of Jabba the Hutt. He, like the rest of his Kadas’sa’Nikto species, acclimated well to a harsh desert climate.

Tessek and Max Rebo

Blink and you’ll miss him! Tessek was a member of the squid-like species called Quarren. He wore extravagant garments and seemed to enjoy dancing to live music. In Return of the Jedi, you can spot Tessek jamming next to Max Rebo. This musician worked for hire, often serving sleazy patrons at whatever gig he and his band could get. A fan-favorite, Max Rebo was recognizable by his blue elephantine appearance and his favorite instrument, the red ball jett organ.
