Coolest Marvel Video Games in the Multiverse
From Avengers to Guardians, there are almost too many Marvel games to pick favorites — but we still might have some truly awesome selections. In no particular order, these are perhaps some of the coolest Marvel video games across the Multiverse.
Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018)
Platform: PC, PlayStation
Developer: Insomniac Games
Featured characters: Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Mary Jane Watson
Gameplay: Swinging around New York and fighting like the titular wall-crawler has never felt better. You have to protect your city from the countless villains who threaten to tear it apart. While Kingpin wants to make a profit, a new villain completely inverts your world.
Unique Features: The game opens with perhaps the most important aspect of being Spider-Man. Then, players immediately begin swinging around New York. The animations are excellent, and the feeling is indescribable. You feel like Spider-Man in this game, and not much else is needed to enjoy this swinging adventure.
Marvel Snap
Platform: PC, Android, iOS
Developer: Second Dinner
Featured Characters: All of them!
Gameplay: This multiplayer video game brings trading card games to a whole new level. The entire Marvel Multiverse collides, as decks comprised of 12 cards vie for power in three iconic Marvel locations.
Unique Features: The Snap feature changes everything. It can even be used before all six turns are over, and it’s a big gamble. If you’re likely to win, you can win big. But even if you’re likely to lose, using The Snap can still benefit you. That one singular feature changes the whole strategy of the game.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
Platform: PC, Xbox, PlayStation
Developer: Square Enix, Eidos-Montréal
Featured Characters: Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket, Groot
Gameplay: This third-person perspective single-player game lets you play as the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Peter Quill. You lead the team against any and all threats throughout the game, commanding them and inspiring them to get the job done.
Unique Features: The choices you make in the game are long-lasting. They are impactful and help weave the narrative of the game in a more personal way. Furthermore, your choices influence all your relationships and interactions in the game, giving you a one-of-a-kind experience.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Platform: PC, PlayStation
Developer: Insomniac Games
Featured Characters: Miles Morales
Gameplay: This time, Peter Parker is out of town. It’s up to Miles Morales to save the day. And while it feels good to swing around New York as Peter Parker, Miles Morales has his own sense of style. You can really feel the difference in the rhythm and motions of the game. You certainly still feel like you’re Spider-Man, but now in a whole new beautiful way.
Unique Features: While Peter Parker has been at it for years, this game shows the world of Miles Morales. It explores his family through the city itself, as you search for audio clues to uncover the story of Miles’ family. The story is more intimate and more personal than even the first Spider-Man game in the series, celebrating Miles’ culture and his development as a hero.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
Platform: Computer, PlayStation, XBox, Wii U, Nintendo Switch
Developer: Traveller’s Tales
Featured Characters: The Avengers, the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and more!
Gameplay: You can expect a light-hearted and absolutely fun adventure any time you pick up a LEGO game. As always, you can play single-player or couch co-op. You’ll play an entire cast of characters and get all sorts of fun abilities in this action-packed and LEGO-stacked game.
Unique Features: There’s no humor like the humor in a LEGO game. You can always rely on quick quips and fast jests in a game like this one! And it’s even more entertaining when all the heroes and villains band together to fight Galactus.
Midnight Suns
Platform: PC, XBox, PlayStation
Developer: Firaxis Games
Featured Characters: Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Blade, Ghost Rider, and so many more!
Gameplay: This game is a third-person RPG with turn-based combat. You’ll play primarily as The Hunter and team up with three other heroes at a time to fight a magical war like never before.
Unique Features: The turn-based combat uses a series of playing cards. You can build your deck in a variety of ways, but perhaps the most engaging is how your conversations and interactions with different characters build your relationships and unlock new abilities.
Marvel vs. Capcom
Platform: PC, XBox, PlayStation
Developer: Capcom, Backbone Entertainment, Eighting, Iron Galaxy Studios
Featured Characters: Street Fighter and Marvel Characters
Gameplay: This series of eight games pushed fighting games into a whole new realm. While its traditional 2D style might seem simplistic, there is plenty of complexity in just the combat alone.
Unique Features: Each new addition to the series introduces brilliant features. In Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, players fought with a full roster, instead of one-on-one fights. In Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, we received a cinematic story mode. There’s no way to pick one best game in this iconic series.
Marvel Contest of Champions
Platform: Mobile
Developer: Kabam, Raw Thrills
Featured Characters: Venompool, Shang-Chi, and so so many more!
Gameplay: Across time and space, you can play as your favorite characters and even fight as some new ones! Each character has their own abilities. There are story elements as well when you enter into the quest mode. Plus, the game has over 200 characters that you can fight against and play.
Unique Features: This game saw the introduction of one of the most popular Venompool designs ever! The game is constantly updated to include new skins, new designs, new characters, and even new game modes.
Marvel’s Avengers
Platform: PC, PlayStation, XBox
Developer: Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal
Featured Characters: Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, Black Widow, Ms. Marvel, and more!
Gameplay: This third-person action-adventure game lets you play as multiple heroes fighting against A.I.M. and M.O.D.O.K. There is a single-player mode with a massive story where the heroes fight to save Inhumans. Additionally, the game features an online mode where you can team up with four other people.
Unique Features: The game allows you to spend time with characters we haven’t really gotten to know as well through the movies and shows. More than that, the combat consistently impresses, with each character having a completely unique set of abilities that truly feel exciting to explore.
