Peacefest & the Biggest, Boldest DCU News from SDCC 2025

Ultimately, one of the biggest SDCC draws this year was DC Studios. With the recent success of Superman, people can’t wait to see what’s next. James Gunn is spearheading a new chapter of exciting big and small screen ventures through Detective Comics. The next one: Peacemaker season 2, a follow-up to the wild, wonderful, and widely anticipated season 1 that aired all the way back in 2022. Yet the series’ momentum hasn’t suffered at all in the three-year gap, particularly because Christopher Smith/Peacemaker made quite the cameo in Superman.

Let’s recap DC Studios’ presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 below. Plus, we’ll break down the Peacemaker season 2 and Aztec Batman trailers, share some special photos from Peacefest, and celebrate DC’s Eisner wins.

Peacemaker Season 2

Where do we even start? As expected, there’s a lot going on with Peacemaker season 2. But we’ll boil it down to the main plots. For the most part, Peacemaker is once again exploring themes of Chris’ identity. That is to say, this bad guy has a moral dilemma, and he’s not sure how to solve it. One option, and the one that’s going to cause the most insane ramifications, is replacing his parallel universe self. Yep, it looks like Chris is dimension-hopping until he finds a place in the Multiverse that he likes more than his current life. Sounds really well-adjusted, friend.

That’s because, back home, Chris is struggling. His crush doesn’t like him back. Rick Flag Sr. is out to avenge his murdered son. The Justice Gang won’t recruit Peacemaker, either. So Chris is really struggling with his sense of self-worth. The easiest — though definitely not the most fulfilling or manageable — solution is escapism. But Peacemaker’s friends, including Harcourt, Adebayo, Economos, and Adrian (Vigilante) don’t want to lose their favorite problematic fellow.

Peacefest

Sideshow also had the pleasure of participating in Peacefest. This exciting event celebrated all things Peacemaker. Plus, there were shopping opportunities! (Show us if you scored a T-shirt). Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires

The colonists include familiar villainous faces: Two-Face and The Joker, with a historical twist. Meanwhile, Poison Ivy appears as a true nature goddess and Catwoman drops in as Batman’s costumed ally. Batman’s gadgets are also period-accurate and culturally appropriate, promising an incredible adventure and authentic Indigenous super hero story.

Absolute Wonder Woman

Absolute Wonder Woman won Best New Series of the Year at the Eisner Awards. Written by Kelly Thompson, with art by Hayden Sherman, this comic explores who Diana would be without the island paradise or sisterhood that shaped her. It is one of three amazing releases stripping the DC Trinity of their iconic origins and their immediately recognizable trademarks. Yet Absolute Wonder Woman distills Diana to her core, executing an alternate universe adventure without losing sight of what makes us love Wonder Woman. No wonder it won big!
