Wolverine Appears in Marvel’s Deadpool 3 Teaser Trailer

His moment has finally arrived, and Deadpool is returning in all his fourth-wall smashing, smartass-quipping glory — with a new friend, Wolverine!

During Super Bowl LVIII, Marvel released its first Deadpool 3 teaser trailer, revealing that the new title is Deadpool & Wolverine. The film will release this summer on July 26, 2024, marking a shift in tone for the Disney-led MCU. But how big of a shift? Well, knowing Deadpool, the shift is about to hit the fan.

The teaser opens with Wade Wilson celebrating a birthday alongside Deadpool’s closest friends, including Vanessa, Colossus, Blind Al, Negasonic Teenage Warhead and her girlfriend Yukio, and even Shatterstar. Plus, the party features a very special appearance by a very horrendous wig that only Deadpool would dare to attempt. But one mysterious knock on the door is about to knock that wig right off Wade’s head.

Now, you might not peg Deadpool for the new face of Disney’s MCU but that’s exactly what’s in store. He slaps on his familiar red and black suit, loads his guns, and charges into battle at the behest of a new employer: the TVA.

Deadpool & The TVA

 

So far, we’ve only witnessed the Time Variance Authority, AKA the TVA, make life extremely difficult for another Marvel menace, Loki. Throughout the Loki TV series, the trickster god struggled against this enigmatic organization that keeps order within the infinite timelines of the Multiverse. With Loki’s recent ascension into becoming a God of Stories type figure, the TVA’s new function in the Multiverse is even more elusive.

At the head of the TVA, at least as far as Deadpool is concerned, is a man named Paradox. In the comics, he works alongside Mobius and Ouroboros. His main storyline involves presiding over a She-Hulk trial in which she’s being punished for threatening order within the timeline. Hmm … sounds familiar.

Why is Deadpool working with the TVA?

The reason that the TVA has recruited Deadpool isn’t entirely clear yet. Presumably, his ability to break the fourth wall, much like She-Hulk, plays a part in him being the ideal candidate for the TVA’s mission. Paradox plays into Wade’s delusions and shows him footage of the Avengers, promising Wade he can be a real hero. While there’s also another Marvel comics character named Paradox who’s related to Doctor Strange and the recently introduced Clea, this Paradox is likely someone who is trying to regain control over rampant or intersecting timelines. Which brings us to that snowy battleground with the big letters.

Deadpool Meets Wolverine

In the trailer, the main action we see takes places in a mysterious snowy field. As Deadpool battles unnamed assailants, he’s surrounded by humongous stone signs which seem to say 20th Century Fox. And that’s when Wade is approached by a familiar shadow, whose hands pop out three long-awaited claws.

As the new title suggests, Deadpool & Wolverine will bring back one of the most famous faces of the X-Men. When these two first met, much like his initial meetings with Cable, Deadpool and Wolverine did not get along. Will they somehow reach common ground? Will other members of the X-Men appear? Nothing is confirmed yet, although an X-Men adversary, Pyro, does make a quick appearance. All signs point to this film being full of cameos and big fan-favorite returns.
