Who Are Deadpool’s Closest Friends from Marvel Comics?

By Sideshow on Apr 1, 2023

Hey hey hey! It’s your favorite comic book character who wears mostly red and doesn’t have super speed or stick to walls or solve court cases or slash stuff with claws or- … y’know what, let’s try that again.

Hey hey hey, it’s Deadpool! Your favorite character who has lots of jokes and lots of friends. Since Deadpool is set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut (+1 point for Disney!) in the near future, we should meet some of his best friends right here and now.

Of course, since Deadpool is friends with everyone, we’re just going to have to pick the characters who are a head above the rest.

Wolverine

Maybe we shouldn’t have said “a head above the rest,” since we’re pretty sure Logan is notoriously a shorty. Not that there’s anything wrong with being 5’3! Deadpool would be the first to admit he loves a short king. But really, Wade Wilson and Wolverine go way back. After all, they were both in the Weapon Plus program together!

Did you know that Wolverine’s healing factor was the very thing that scientists amplified on Deadpool? And they’re both Canadian. Yeah, they’re basically blood brothers! Plus they’ve worked together on X-Force PLENTY of times. Okay sure, Wolverine has decapitated Deadpool just as many times, but that’s what we call tough love. Or maybe just love.

Cable

While we’re on the subject of love, there’s one character who Deadpool really bonded with. In fact, Deadpool and Cable were quite literally bonded together for quite some time. You see, they were both infected with the Façade Virus, and the only way to stop its effect was to merge their DNA. From then on, Deadpool and Cable even teleported together! They did awkwardly integrate into a single body once, but Deadpool never minded a good hug.

They fought side by side for years, with their own comic book Cable and Deadpool. Time and time again, Deadpool would stand by his friend even if the whole world turned against him. So maybe Cable was planning to take over the world, but haven’t we all? When it comes down to it, meeting Cable was just good luck.

Domino

Did you see that? Did you see that transition? It was about as slick as Deadpool’s other best friend Domino. There’s a certain charm about her. She is just about as lucky as can be. And maybe she’s lucky that she met Deadpool in the first place! Cable and Deadpool worked together to save Domino from Tolliver, Cable’s son from a dystopian future. Plus, Cable and Domino have been on quite a few of the same teams: Mercs for Money, X-Force, the Six Pack, to name a few.

On the other hand, there have also been plenty of times when Deadpool and Domino haven’t gotten along. Domino certainly wasn’t pleased to be trapped in Cable’s mind. But really, that could’ve happened to anyone! Eventually Deadpool fixed it by completely rebooting Cable’s immune system, so it all worked out in the end. With Domino’s luck, it always works out, even when things seem a bit out of this world.

Venom

Speaking of out of this world, Deadpool met one of his closest friends on a completely different planet called Battleworld. While Captain America, Doctor Doom, Wasp, Magneto and many other heroes and villains were transported there to fight in the Secret Wars, Deadpool found himself in a particularly unique situation. He was the first person to find Venom and fuse with the symbiote.

Venom usually tries to manipulate the mind of its host. In this case, it seems Deadpool manipulated the mind of Venom. Some comics even speculate that Deadpool was the one who drove Venom mad. No matter the origin, some stories see the pair continue their adventures as Venompool. You get lots of time with the eccentric pair in the video game Marvel Contest of Champions! And to think that Deadpool met Venom even before Spider-Man. Oh, oh! Spider-Man! He’s definitely best friend material. Let’s do him next.

Spider-Man

As we were saying, Deadpool’s best friend is Spider-Man. Maybe it’s the quick quips that they always share. Or maybe it’s the zany adventures! It could have been the time that they switched costumes to defeat the Chameleon or the time they fought against symbiote dinosaurs. Honestly, it could have been when they ended up in the same retirement home!

Most likely, it was the 50-issue series called Spider-Man / Deadpool that saw the friends take on a series of baddies and hijinks like never before. They even got matching sweaters! There are few super friends who make that much of an impact on any one person’s life. We couldn’t even imagine a world where Spider-Man and Deadpool aren’t best friends.

Weasel

Well, if you really think about it, Deadpool would be nothing without his weapons. Actually, Deadpool wouldn’t even have his weapons if it weren’t for Weasel! Jack Hammer, AKA Weasel, went to school with Peter Parker, and he was a fairly talented chemist. He’s good with tech, too, so that’s particularly helpful.

It’s an added bonus that Weasel is particularly forgiving and doesn’t try to kill Deadpool all the time. Only sometimes. But to be fair, Deadpool has also stabbed Weasel for nothing more than a Cheesy Puff. Friendship at its finest!

Blind Al

Althea, commonly known as Blind Al, was probably working in British intelligence. Probably. Her past is pretty unclear. But then not much is clear about the relationship between Deadpool and Blind Al. They’re roommates most of the time, except roommates might not be the best word. Does Deadpool keep her captive? He sure does. Does Blind Al poison him? She sure does.

When it really comes down to it, they’ve got each others’ backs. Though they both like to get into cussing matches and prank wars, they really are best friends. Al trusts him with bits of her elusive past (she definitely got it on with Cap) and she hopes her influence might sway Wade toward heroics. It even seems like Deadpool is more honest and more vulnerable with Blind Al than just about anyone. So when it comes down to it, she’s probably his best friend.
