Background and Style

“For me, more than anything, painting is about bringing to life images from my imagination, to share my visions with myself as well as others.”

Brom currently lives in and works out of Savannah, Georgia. In his youth, he moved constantly, spending time in Japan, Hawaii, Germany, and Alabama. According to Brom, he “unabashedly blames” these locales for the weird and wild images cast from his mind onto canvases and pages.

Brom’s paintings are fantastical and undeniably dark, blending beautiful and disturbing imagery that calls to mind certain religious, historical, and mythological artifacts, symbols, and figures. He considers “melancholia” to be his muse, evoking deep feelings of loss, grief, and otherworldliness.

Slewfoot

Slewfoot is Brom’s most popular book. This colonial horror is set in Connecticut, where folklore and demons merge into a fast-paced and frightening fairytale. Described as a “battle between Pagan and Puritan,” Slewfoot is a terrifying tale not to be missed … or to be taken lightly. As is typical for Brom, the novel also includes over two dozen of his paintings.

Evil in Me

Brom’s most recent release, Evil in Me, is now available in hardback. It follows a singer hell-bent on finding salvation before she succumbs to an ancient hunger. Evil in Me includes over 20 of Brom’s original immersive paintings, as well as endpapers designed and illustrated by the artist/writer. The Georgia-based grunge metal band The Maxines have also brought Brom’s fictional band’s music to life with their EP also called Evil in Me  — available wherever you stream your music.
