Filming for the untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie has begun!

The news comes right from the source. Lucasfilm announced that principal photography has started on the untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie with a picture of star Alden Ehrenreich flanked by Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian), Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge along with directors Philip Lord and Chris Miller. Actress Thandie Newton is not pictured, but she has been confirmed for the film. No word yet on which role she’ll be playing.

We also have a new Chewbacca for this film, 6’11” Joonas Suotamo will be stepping back into the role after being Peter Mayhew’s double in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That makes us think we’ll be seeing a much more active Wookiee, which makes sense given the time period of the film.

Lord and Miller sound like they’re incredibly excited about the project.

“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous,” Lord and Miller said. “We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”

We also have a release date. The untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story is set to hit theaters May 25, 2018.
