General Grievous’ Best Quotes Throughout Star Wars

General Grievous only appeared in a single film before becoming a fan favorite, just like Darth Maul before him. With his extraordinary confidence, his intricate robotic design, and his devious plans, it’s no wonder Grievous is one of the scariest Star Wars™ characters. The backstory of General Grievous is perhaps one of the most engaging and devastating in all of Star Wars.

Even though Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith™ sees the end of General Grievous, it was really only the beginning of the character. We see him in nearly every season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars™ and he’s been featured in quite a few comics. And throughout all of his appearances, he has quite a few memorable quotes.

“Your lightsabers will make a fine addition to my collection!”

Anyone who crosses paths with him knows that General Grievous loves to collect lightsabers™. He is constantly seen with at least four lightsabers hidden within his cloak. Up against Obi-Wan Kenobi™, in one of the best lightsaber battles of all time, Grievous separates his arms and fights with four spinning and twirling lightsabers. He really is a powerful warrior and an adamant collector.

“Anakin Skywalker, I expected someone with your reputation to be a little … older.”

Anakin Skywalker™ certainly has a reputation. He’s one of the best pod-racers of all time! Oh, and he does also happen to be a rather ruthless and extremely effective general with years of military service and unprecedented Force abilities. With all of his extraordinary and impossible feats and victories, it would make sense that General Grievous was surprised by his age. After all, first impressions do make a big difference.

“General Kenobi, you are a bold one.”

Grievous isn’t always a respectable leader. He abandons ship any time there’s a sign of trouble. He left his droid army to die multiple times. He is extremely self serving. And yet, he has quite a bit of respect for the expertise and cleverness of General Obi-Wan Kenobi.

“I will deal with this Jedi slime myself.”

While Grievous certainly has a respect for General Kenobi, that only makes Kenobi a more exciting challenge. Grievous feels the need to prove himself at every opportunity. And so, instead of letting his entire army fighting the one singular Jedi™, he tell his troops to stand down. After all, he thinks he’s one of the greatest warriors of all time. He thinks he can beat any Jedi.

“I’ve been trained in your Jedi arts by Count Dooku.”

Perhaps General Grievous’ arrogance comes from his master, Count Dooku™. After all, he was trained by a powerful and arrogant Sith Lord™. Grievous was arguably an even more creative warrior than Dooku. He was able to user four arms in battle, as well as crawl and sneak on six legs like a spider. His versatility, mobility, and ingenuity make him a dangerous enemy, and he knows it.

“Jedi scum…”

When it comes to General Grievous you can be sure of two things: He wants lightsabers for his collection, and he’s going to insult the Jedi. His insults aren’t particularly clever, nor varied. And yet, each new insult is a treasured addition to our own collection. Whether the Jedi are slime, scum, or some other similar word, we can always count on Grievous to conceive a quick quip.

“So many lightsabers to add to my collection…”

Grievous launches on attack on a pirate base, and Ahsoka Tano™ and the younglings just so happen to be in the way. Grievous is far too confident in his ability to defeat and destroy each of the younglings. And yet, Ahsoka is a powerful Padawan™ herself. She took what she learned from Anakin Skywalker and passed it onto the next generation of Jedi. Grievous wasn’t able to expand his collection after all.

“Your skills are impressive. Perhaps a match for my own.”

In Star Wars: The Clone Wars™, General Grievous finds himself face to face with the formidable Sith Asajj Ventress™. The two warriors go face to face in a great show of power and pride. After all, before Grievous, Asajj Ventress was Count Dooku’s apprentice. Considering his arrogance, Grievous is offering Asajj quite a compliment. Of course, Asajj could care less.

“General Kenobi, we’ve been waiting for you. Stinking Jedi.”

In a deleted scene from Revenge of the Sith, General Grievous traps and kills the Jedi Master Shaak Ti™. Using her as bait, he is able to get Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan to come to her rescue. He tosses one of his classic insults their way before using Shaak Ti’s own lightsaber to defeat her.

“It won’t be long before the armies of the Republic track us here. I am sending all of you to the Mustafar system in the Outer Rim. It is a volcanic planet which generates a great deal of scanning interference. You will be safe there.”

Nearing the end of the war, and unknowingly nearing the end of his life, General Grievous actually received something of a promotion. After Anakin Skywalker kills Count Dooku, Grievous assumes the role of leader of the Separatists. He takes it upon himself to console and comfort other Separatist representatives. It’s a unique reminder that despite being so clearly a brutish warrior, Grievous sees himself as a political leader and a proud general.

Perhaps it was pride that led to his downfall. Or perhaps it was planned by Emperor Palpatine™ all along…
