Harley Quinn’s 8 Most Famous Quotes Across DC Media

By Jasmine Edwards on Jan 16, 2025

Throughout every iteration of a character, there will always be a few unalterable traits. After all, those personality consistencies are what make the character who they are. For Harley Quinn from DC, it’s nonstop chitchat — whether it’s a conversation or a monologue. At her very core, Dr. Harleen Quinzel is and always shall be a chatterbox. And we mean truly talkative! She’s loud, loquacious, and loves to express herself through a brassy Brooklyn accent. Honestly, Harley Quinn’s mouth is so big, it could rival her oversized hammer. But we do mean that affectionately.

Since she’s always talking, you may think it’s easy to tune Harley out, or that her sentences lack substance. However, that’s not the case. Harley Quinn’s constant jabbering yields some truly memorable quotes, from laugh-out-loud turns of phrase to unsettling reminders of her enemies’ impending doom. Harley’s also one of the most quoted DC characters to date, dominating social media captions or pop culture references on T-shirts. Below, let’s look at 8 of Harley Quinn’s most famous lines in comics, television, and movies.

“Puddin’.”

Batman: The Animated Series

Most interestingly, Harley Quinn actually debuted in Batman: The Animated Series. So “Puddin'” came directly from those writers, and was spoken perfectly by the late and great actress Arleen Sorkin. Also, “Puddin'” has to be Harley Quinn’s most famous line of all time. This endearment for the Clown Prince of Crime, AKA The Joker, has basically become her catchphrase. Of course, we can problematize that a little, since it hinges on her abusive relationship to a maniac. But for now, we’ll just admit how sweet and original this affectionate nickname is — even if it’s often used when The Joker is at at his most sinister.

“You really put the ‘fun’ in funeral.”

Batman: The Animated Series

This quote also comes from Batman: The Animated Series. During a mournful, faux-funeral for Batman, The Joker gets in one last laugh. He puts a “Kick me” sign on the empty cape, inside the coffin. Harley’s frown turns upside down as she praises her Puddin’ for his comedic timing. And while this isn’t Harley’s original quote, but rather a prevalent saying, the Clown Princess has one of the most memorable deliveries.

“If we find out you have personalized license plates, you die.”

The Suicide Squad

In The Suicide Squad, Colonel Rick Flag lists some conditions for a covert operation. Inspired by her friend’s pacing and strict guidelines, Harley decides to add some of her own. Among them is this dig at vanity plates. Fans couldn’t get enough of the silly social judgement, especially due to its placement along such rules as not betraying the squad while they infiltrate a secret lab. Also included is a reminder not to cough without covering your mouth. Flag disagrees that this will lead to any murder, but emphasizes that it’s still not an invitation to break that hygienic taboo.

“No one is like me.”

Birds of Prey

Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn deals a lot with Harley’s self-help journey. She struggles with her identity after a major breakup. Similarly, she wrestles with her self-confidence and future plans. Who is she outside of being Daddy’s Little Monster? What is she besides the Harlequin who dances and destroys for her master? Turns out, she’s a lot of things, and all of them make her as unique and special as you can be.

“I’m rubber, you’re glue, whatever you say bounces off me and makes a six-inch-diameter exit wound in you.”

Batman: The Animated Series

Here’s another quote that’s partially lifted from elsewhere. Harley Quinn starts off this familiar phrase with an enchanting rhyme scheme. In most instances, this would be used in context to tell someone they can’t hurt you with cruel words. But why bring insults to a fight when you could just bring a gun? Outmatching her opponent in verbal banter and weapons, Harley threatens them in typical Harley fashion.

“You think you’re scary. But mister, I’ve seen scary. And you ain’t got his smile.”

Detective Comics

Sadly, Harley spent most of her early days in DC media as The Joker’s victim. Once she breaks free of his toxic chokehold, though, it’s not like she’s suddenly cured of years of trauma. There’s still a lot of work to do in order to heal. However, her time as the psychopath’s plaything prepared her for just about everything else. Harley Quinn has already gone through the worst part of her life. It’s only uphill from here — even if there’s some kidnappings and torture sessions on the way.

“But I’m the one they should be scared of! Not you, not Mistah J! Because I’m Harley f***ing Quinn!”

Birds of Prey

Like we said, Harley went through a total identity crisis in Birds of Prey. In a lot of ways, this mirrors her problems in comics. Harley can’t always decide which pieces of her are her own, The Joker’s, or a result of PTSD and a bad childhood. Additionally, Harley Quinn often straddles the fuzzy lines between villain, hero, and antihero. But here’s the thing. No matter where she lands in those categories, Harley is terrifying, smart, and incredibly capable. More people need to take her and her abilities seriously. And we’re so happy that she knows her own self-worth by the end of the film.

“Well, the joke’s on you! I’m not even a real blonde.”

Batman: The Animated Series

Harley Quinn seems to fit the “air-headed blonde” stereotype. Well, that’s only if you overlook the PhD, and most people do. But in The Animated Series, she owns her intelligence. She calls Batman out for being condescending, likely due to the fact that she’s been profiled as a “dumb blonde.” Well, Harley’s got news for you, Bats! Her iconic yellow pigtails are, in fact, a dye job. And we need to know who her salonist is stat, because we never see her natural roots.
