Lando Calrissian’s Best Quotes
He’s not a system, he’s a man. In fact, he’s the man. First introduced in STAR WARS™: The Empire Strikes Back, Lando Calrissian is one of the most smooth-talking and sly characters in all of the galaxy.
He’s a card player, a gambler, and a scoundrel, and while everything he says is charming, these lines just might be a cut above the rest. Here are just some of Lando’s best quotes.
“How you doin’, ya old pirate? So good to see ya!”
Tensions were high as the Millennium Falcon’s crew landed in Cloud City. First there was no one. Then, there was Lando Calrissian, with a group of armed guards.
Han tried to greet his friend casually, and he was lucky that Lando doesn’t really hold a grudge. Not even against pirates and smugglers!
“You know, that ship’s saved my life quite a few times. She’s the fastest hunk o’ junk in the galaxy!”
Along the way, we learned how much Lando truly loves the Falcon. After all, it makes sense! When a ship saves your life so many times, you really start to appreciate it.
“You might want to buckle up, baby.”
There are more than a few dings in the interior and exterior of the rustbucket known as the Millennium Falcon. But after quite a few modifications, time and attention, it can do one thing better than most ships: go fast.
In Solo, Lando takes Han for a ride, jumping into lightspeed. And with power like that, there’s no way Han was prepared for the takeoff.
“This deal is getting worse all the time.”
Every card player knows when he’s been cheated, but Darth Vader doesn’t gamble. He knows exactly what he wants, and he’ll do whatever it takes to get it. And with the Force powers and lightsaber to enforce his will, it’s hard to say no.
This line shows that Lando’s not happy about being lied to. Good thing Landonis Balthazar Calrissian always has a trick up his sleeve.
“How you doin’, Chewbacca? Still hanging around with this loser?”
From Solo to The Empire Strikes Back, Chewbacca is a loyal friend to Han Solo. He’s there through thick and thin, dodging asteroids, and any number of Summa-verminoths that they might encounter.
It’s good to see that Lando remembers Chewie fondly. How could you ever forget a 7 foot tall Wookiee, especially when he hangs out with the nerf herder who took your ship?
“Everything you’ve heard about me is true.”
Whether he’s playing sabacc, making deals throughout the galaxy, or making steals throughout the galaxy, Lando Calrissian is a man of many talents. There are rumors spread far and wide about the infamous pirate.
And instead of caring about maintaining a good reputation, he just plays right into whatever other people think. It makes him sound grand. As a matter of fact, with crazy stories like his, everything you’ve heard about him probably is true!
“Smuggler? Such a small word. I’m more of a… galactic entrepreneur.”
Fans of the Star Wars animated series got another chance to spend time with Lando in Season 1, Episode 11 of Star Wars: Rebels. The episode, sees the Lasat warrior Zeb lose a card game to Lando himself! Not only that, but he bets their droid Chopper in the game.
In order to win Chopper back, the Rebels go on a mission with Lando. When the tales the team has heard about him aren’t appealing enough, he twists the words in his favor.
“Lord Vader, we only use this facility for carbon freezing. You put him in there, it might kill him!”
Despite double-crossing Han Solo and the Rebels in The Empire Strikes Back, we see that Lando does have have a sense of honor.
Sure, business is business, but he does have a heart and a conscience. Looking out for himself doesn’t have to mean hurting his old friend. It’s good to see that even Lando has a line he won’t cross.
“Yeah, I’m responsible these days. It’s the price you pay for being successful.”
Well, maybe there were lines that Lando would cross before. But that was before he became a leader in the prosperous Cloud City. As Baron Administrator of the floating city, he had to leave behind his irresponsible gambling and card playing.
But was he still a scoundrel? Well, after a time, he was certainly a thorn in the side of the Empire. Once a scoundrel, always a scoundrel.
“Why you slimy, double-crossing, no-good swindler. You’ve got a lot of guts coming here, after what you pulled.”
This is Lando’s very first line in all of Star Wars history. Right away, it reveals how colorful his language can be, and how fans weren’t entirely sure whether he was friend or foe.
He’s always got the right thing to say, and when he wants to keep Han Solo on edge, he whips of out a string of insults that would make anyone feel uncomfortable. It helps that he’s (mostly) just joking.
