Marvel Comics’ Best Hellfire Gala 2023 Outfits
Since the founding of Krakoa, the X-Men have had a pretty rough go of it. Sure, the island nation is a mutant paradise — at first glance. However, over the years the X-Men have faced threats from the outside (ORCHIS and the Eternals) as well as from the inside (thanks a lot, Mister Sinister).
As the X-Men race towards the Fall of X event, Marvel has promoted the Hellfire Gala 2023 as a pivotal event in their downfall. Gowns will be torn, heels will be cracked, and blood will be shed. And that’s probably all before the doors even open!
When it comes to fashion, each year the outfits have only gotten better. Ahead of the 2023 Hellfire Gala, let’s rate some of the looks that have been previewed so far.
Villain Hellfire Gala 2023 Outfits
Kingpin
This Hellfire Gala outfit is easily the most clever. As the mastermind behind countless plots against Marvel’s mightiest super heroes, Kingpin’s empire knows no end. That’s why it’s fitting his look would harken back to one of the most famous emperors in history, Julius Caesar. But who’s Brutus?
Hallow’s Eve
This Spider-Man villain has gotten her own solo series and she is a newer antagonist on the rise. Her spooky-themed power is to use masks to embody their inherent abilities — think vampires, werewolves, and the like. For the gala, Janine Godbe AKA Hallow’s Eve, knocks on the door of ‘50s movie star glamour with a masquerade accessory and floor-length orange (duh) gown.
Avengers Hellfire Gala 2023 Outfits
Vision
Do androids dream of electrifying fashion? Apparently Vision does. With his gold and green cape swirling in every direction, strategically revealing his red synthezoid physique beneath, Vision is … well, a vision. Plus, the way his cape trails infinitely is an interesting connection to Wanda Maximoff, his former wife. They’re on the Avengers together again, after all…
Captain Marvel
We’re seeing stars all thanks to Captain Marvel! Her red, blue, and gold outfit not only pays respect to her military background but also elevates her style with red gloves and epaulets, not to mention a star-studded updo.
Ghost Rider
Ghost Rider knows that sometimes you don’t need to mess with the classics. Leather jacket, leather pants, leather boots, and some buckles, all doused in flames? That’s one helluva look.
Moon Knight
Speaking of sleek and streamlined, Moon Knight’s ethereal bodysuit and shawl-cape combo is really working for him. With a stylish crescent blade and some sneaky mesh lining, this outfit has us over the moon.
Miles Morales
This year, Miles Morales’ Hellfire outfit truly lives up to his top-tier style. His tux is perfectly accented with a webbed pattern, while his mask is designed to let his hair look awesome. Plus, red shades and red kicks tie it all together.
X-Men Hellfire Gala 2023 Outfits
Emma Frost
It’s her party and she’ll slay if she wants to. Just like every year, Emma Frost proves that diamonds are the only accessory fit for a queen. This year, Emma means business and her glam suit lets everybody know it — especially Iron Man.
Dazzler
Speaking of all that glitters, Dazzler is once again taking center stage. This legacy mutant is an eternal fan favorite and her Russell Dauterman design for this year is giving dangerous disco ball in the best way.
Synch & Talon
Hats off to the X-Couple of the Year! Synch and Talon (formerly Wolverine and before that X-23) are coordinated in all the right ways. With a black base and gold accents, Synch’s powers provide psionic accessories so everyone knows this couple is in it for the long run.
Psylocke
After an extended psychic entanglement with Betsy Braddock, Kwannon has been free to explore her own identity as Psylocke in the Krakoan era. Her Hellfire outfit this year utilizes her signature black color scheme while also paying homage to Betsy with a butterfly face armor.
Jean Grey
Just as Emma is ready to make some deals this year, Jean Grey is gearing up for a fight. Her emerald helmet, spiked shoulder pads, and tall boots are a sign that she’s ready to strike out on her own. Plus, that bit of fire at the bottom of her green gradient hints at the ever-present Phoenix Force. Feathers crossed!
Cyclops
Scott’s design this year is easily among the most intriguing. As a central figure in human-mutant relations, Scott Summers has often carried the weight of intolerance towards mutants on his shoulders. Aside from the ruby quartz, this outfit departs from his usual color scheme. Could the shift signify a sinister transformation for Cyclops?
Honorable Mentions
Bishop looks handsome as ever in his wartime regalia (War College is a full-time gig). Thor and Nova are giving the people what they want with some rippling muscles. Speaking of Avengers, Hellcat looks especially glamorous in her hooded gown (plus claws and ears). Black Panther wows with his Wakandan suit while Scarlet Witch is embracing her mystical side beautifully.
Mentions
These folks certainly have an outfit, and X knows they tried. Firestar and Iceman continue to make creative use of their powers for Hellfire fashion, while Kate Pryde’s recurring pirate theme gets some exciting thigh-high boots and perfect hair. Over on the Quiet Council, a metallic Professor X is serving big cape and bigger helmet — perhaps a slight nod to his fallen friend, Magneto.
