Welcome to the family! A long-awaited, highly anticipated first look at Marvel’s First Family has finally arrived. The official teaser trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps has landed on our screens. We’ve got everything from glimpses at the F4’s dazzling powers to the comic-accurate suits. This exciting new team’s debut will hit theaters on July 25, 2025.

Welcome to the Baxter Building

One of the most exciting shots of the entire teaser trailer shows the Fantastic Four lined up on a stage, presumably presenting themselves to an audience. It appears that the super hero team is famous in their own world. Children are shown wearing masks of The Thing and the start of the teaser introduces the team as if they’re being interviewed for publicity.

Since director Matt Shakman is behind the MCU’s big project, it stands to reason that there will be some layers of meta awareness to the story. And that spills into what Reed Richards appears to be working on. A quick shot shows Reed scribbling across a chalkboard and one of the images is of a tube intersecting a plane. Could he be working on an equation to enable interdimensional travel? We do know that this Fantastic Four is from a different universe than the MCU’s Sacred Timeline — and that their universe is facing a big threat.

Retro-Futuristic Style for Fantastic Four

Shakman’s signature style also comes through with the film’s retro-futuristic look. First Steps takes place sometime in the 1960s of its universe, keeping in line with the team’s comic book debut in 1961. The team is also suited up in their iconic bright blue uniforms with white boots and gloves, and the movie’s title cards all share a similar kitschy mid-century design. It almost feels like an extension of Shakman’s other celebrated MCU creation, WandaVision. That can only mean good things for the story we’ve got to look forward to!

In addition to seeing H.E.R.B.I.E., a robot created by Reed to help with finding Galactus (more on the big guy later), we also see the Fantasticar and get an inside look at the Baxter Building. The Baxter Building is the Fantastic Four’s base of operations, and it stands out among the skyline much like Avengers Tower in Earth-616. While the trailer makes a big show of cementing this super hero team as a tight-knit family, we also know there must be underlying tensions.

Galactus in Fantastic Four

The Fantastic Four helped establish the cosmic tone of Marvel comics, especially since the team received their accidental powers during a mission to space. After returning from this fated mission, the team discovers that they each have unique and amazing super powers.

Sue Storm, AKA Invisible Woman, can render herself invisible as well as generate powerful force shields. Her brother, Johnny Storm AKA the Human Torch, can engulf his entire body in flames. Their friend Ben Grimm, AKA The Thing, becomes a monstrous-looking powerhouse made of orange rock. And finally Reed Richards, AKA Mr. Fantastic, gains the ability to stretch his body into endless shapes. It’s interesting to note that this is the only superpower we don’t yet witness in the teaser trailer.

Of course, a space-based team must face cosmic-level threats. The teaser trailer shows Galactus the World Devourer looking down upon New York City, his shadow a terrifying omen of the destruction he brings to any planet he encounters. That comics-accurate helmet is enough to make us tremble! We also see a sky full of flaming projectiles, hinting at the horrible fate that could befall the Fantastic Four’s home universe. And finally, a mysterious old man also appears for a split second in the trailer. Some fans are hypothesizing that this could be Ivan Kragoff, AKA the Red Ghost, an early adversary of the Fantastic Four who was also transformed by cosmic radiation. Or maybe he’s the Mole Man, the first villain defeated by the Fantastic Four! Only time (and space) will tell.
