New Batman Costume Teased!

Matt Reeves shared a camera test of Robert Pattinson in the new Batsuit from his upcoming movie The Batman. The video, shot by Greig Fraser, lasts less than a minute and features orchestral backing from Michael Giacchino. And while the video is short, and the Batsuit is hard to see, fans are absolutely freaking out.

Some fans believe that the Batsuit is inspired by Kevin Smith’s Detective Comics #1000. In the graphic novel, Bruce Wayne wanders through seedy alleyways and super villain weapon markets to find the gun that Joe Chill used to murder Thomas and Martha Wayne. Batman smelts the gun and forges it into a bulletproof chest plate saying, “I’m going to BURN the metal that KILLED my parents and forge it into something USEFUL. So the metal broke my HEART as a child? That same metal will PROTECT my heart as a man.”

Director, writer, and Batman podcaster Kevin Smith himself shared screenshots of the comic book panels with a greyscale photo of Robert Pattinson’s Batman’s breastplate. He doesn’t know whether the fan theory is true, but he, and many of us geeks, are very hopeful.

Most of the details about The Batman are currently under wraps, but we know that it will be Bruce Wayne’s second year as Batman, and that the film features Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler.

The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight himself, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Alex Ferns as Comissioner Pete Savage, and Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál.

The Batman will fly into theaters on June 25, 2021.
