Look Out, Facehuggers! New Official Alien: Romulus Trailer
It’s no easy feat surviving as a scavenger in the depths of outer space. This is true for humans as well as for aliens. There is a new official trailer out now for the upcoming sci-fi/horror film Alien: Romulus and things are about to get very … facehuggy.
This next installment in the popular Alien/Aliens film series will be a standalone story, though the official trailer and the teaser trailer hint at many connections and callbacks to the original films. How will this new group of humans fare against the Xenomorphs? Well, you know what they say about screams in space. Check out the official Alien: Romulus trailer below then stick around for a closer look at what we know so far.
Alien: Romulus Official Trailer
Alien: Romulus will burst into theaters on August 16, 2024. Directed by Fede Álvarez, known for Evil Dead (2013) and Don’t Breathe (2016), the film will focus on a new crew of space colonizers. This time, the team is fairly young and appears to have six members. From start to finish, the trailer utilizes sound and score to build up terrifying suspense. Ambient storm noise is squashed by an unnerving squelch, the first of many body horror sounds that reach a screaming crescendo as the crew faces their unwanted visitors.
One by one, we see the crew members hunted down by Xenomorphs at various stages of development. A watery hallway bathed in blood-curdling red light shows a Xenomorph hatchery of sorts — and also a Facehugger moment that is as invasive and stomach-churning as ever. Another scene shows Rain Carradine (Cailee Spaeny) confronting a crew mate played by Aileen Wu. With the help of a light, we see an alien embryo crawling around within their chest. Nobody will be safe from these hyper-evolved space parasites.
Space Station Under Attack
By the looks of it, this new colonizer crew is stranded. In their desperation, they board the seemingly abandoned Romulus space station and that’s where the horror truly begins. With Ridley Scott as producer, Alien: Romulus is set to take the series back to its roots of heart-pounding action within the confines of hopeless scenarios. Desperate crew members appeal to their fellow explorers to save them despite their likely Xenomorph infections. Someone screams on an operating table, another person’s eyes roll back into their head, and a large object (potentially an egg) breaches the station’s barrier. That’s a lot for one tiny crew to handle.
In addition to Facehuggers and Bodybursters, there will no doubt be other Xenomorph types creeping in on the human buffet. A quick shot of a hangar door on the space station says that the Romulus has a laboratory. Could that mean its former occupants were trying to better understand Xenomorphs, or were they housing them for a more sinister purpose?
With a trailer that promises edge-of-your-seat Xenomorph action, Alien: Romulus looks like it will be an impressive addition to an already legendary film franchise. What are your predictions for Alien: Romulus?
