The First Official Alien: Romulus Film Trailer Arrives

The next installment in the fan-favorite sci-fi/horror Alien film franchise, Alien: Romulus, is one step closer to bursting onto the big screen. An official trailer has been released for the standalone story that takes place between Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). Alien: Romulus promises to take the franchise “back to its roots” when it premieres on August 16, 2024.

Directed by Fede Álvarez, the film explores the trials of a team of scientists who seek to understand the inky black goo first introduced in Prometheus. Check out the official trailer below then access ship information files for further analysis.

Alien: Romulus Trailer

“While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

The minute-long trailer sets the tension and atmosphere immediately. Viewers can’t help but hold their breath as the camera rolls calmly through an unnervingly empty space ship/station — presumably the titular Romulus. This short trailer utilizes extremely effective sound layering with a voiceover of screams, chaos, and cries for help. Eventually we come to a bloodied sleeping pod. We linger on it long enough to develop an idea of what might have happened here. Then that’s where the pace really picks up.

Set between Alien and Aliens, Alien: Romulus chronicles the horrors found deep in space by intrepid colonizers and heroic voyagers. As a young salvage team encounters the most terrifying creatures in the universe, chances of survival are slim. The fire-and-death montage from this first footage is evidence alone of the kill count. Fans of the franchise also got a treat with the chill-inducing montage of Xenomorphs and Facehuggers (parasitic lifeforms which hatch from Xenomorph eggs) wreaking absolute havoc on an unsuspecting crew. No matter what is in store for this film, it promises to be an action-packed bloodbath.

What Do We Know So Far?

Honestly, we don’t know much. We have a six-member cast list and a basic premise. Now we have this first trailer. Based on those scenes alone, we can guess that the crew aboard a small vessel are going to find Xenomorphs in the larger, remote space station. But is the place already abandoned? Or will the aliens infiltrate the settlement? With so many Facehuggers in the mix, we can ascertain the aliens’ objective is to plant more eggs and spread their seed across the galaxy. But since it’s a prequel, we kind of know the outcome.

However, without further context, we can only predict and conjecture so much. But that’s what makes a horror film so exciting — not knowing what comes next. It’s very clear from this trailer, though, that fans can trust it to be an excellent addition to the movie series. Now we just have to sit back, get excited, and wait for the theatrical premiere on August 16, 2024.
