Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: New Pokemon Announcements

In 2006, Nintendo released two brand new Pokémon games: Diamond and Pearl. And now, in 2021, Nintendo is set to release something familiar, and yet completely new.

During a Pokémon Presents conference, Nintendo explained how they intend to celebrate 25 years of the lovable pocket monsters. First, they announced a brand new game called Pokémon Legends: Arceus, that seems to take place in feudal society (inspired by Japanese history) within the Sinnoh region. And while the game is new, the region actually isn’t! We’ve seen the region and many of its collectible Pokémon before…

This lead to the long anticipated announcement of Nintendo’s new remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl! The new games will be called Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl. The trailer for these new games is below:

This was Nintendo’s fourth generation of Pokémon games, taking place in the newly introduced Sinnoh region. Not only did it offer fans over 100 brand new Pokémon to battle and capture, but it also offered them a brand new way to interact with the world as a whole.

This was the first Pokémon game on the DS system. With the state of the art dual screen interaction, there was no telling how things would change! It was also the first game in the series to let you connect and trade with other players over Wi-Fi instead of through a cable (which was fun, but definitely more difficult to carry around as handheld consoles evolved).

The new games will see the return of the Day and Night cycle, as well as many of the unique Pokemon catching accessories, like the Dusk Ball, which interacted with the new season and clock mechanics to help you better catch them all. There is no better way to celebrate the 15th anniversary of these Pokémon games and the 25th anniversary of the franchise as a whole than with this long-awaited remake. The Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will offer players an authentic remake experience, while integrating the best parts of the newer Pokemon games too.

The Pokémon Company said Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have been updated to include “player-friendly conveniences” that have since appeared in newer Pokémon games, as well as “up-close-and-personal Pokémon battle scenes,” with the updated 3D graphics that blend the stylized pixel sprites with the rendered character models of later generations.
