The Official Jurassic World Rebirth Trailer Is on the Loose

An amusement park full of dinosaurs? Dangerous. A park full of the worst of the worst dinosaurs? Now that’s just a death sentence with teeth.

This July, the park reopens … sorta. Jurassic World Rebirth is the seventh film in the larger Jurassic Park franchise and the fourth Jurassic World entry. Watch the official Jurassic World Rebirth trailer below then stick around as we navigate the volatile ethics of messing with prehistoric DNA.

Prehistoric DNA Extraction

Sometimes science just can’t leave well enough alone. In a world where genetically replicated dinosaurs have become old news, researchers still seek to unlock genetic potential using prehistoric DNA. This time, the goal is to use dinosauria and pterosauria DNA to forge medicine for humans. They’re looking for the biggest three they can find. Hey, what could go wrong?

Judging by the trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth, a lot can go wrong. An elite team travels to an island that was the research facility for the original Jurassic Park. Except the animals contained there aren’t the ones everybody is familiar with — these creatures have mated and mutated throughout the decades. In fact, they were the animals deemed too dangerous for the original park.

And what is that enormous reptilian paw stepping out from the shadows? Brief, flare-outlined silhouettes suggest some kind of reptile-mammal hybrid.

Jurassic Park Meets Jurassic World

For centuries, creatures from our planet’s prehistoric past have fascinated our imaginations. Children dream of growing up to be paleontologists and even as adults, that sense of wonder never really leaves us when faced with a dinosaur. Then, in 1993, the original Jurassic Park film (inspired by Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel) took us to Isla Nublar. No dinosaur fan was ever the same.

The Jurassic Park film series established Jurassic Park as an idealistic project. It would be a place for visitors to see prehistoric life up close and personal. However, life always finds a way to be a little more troublesome than anticipated. Greed was a driving force in the original park’s failure (aside from the inherent danger factor). The Lost World and Jurassic Park III introduced Isla Sorna as a second island full of dinosaurs. Then, Jurassic World revitalized the franchise by launching a successful version of John Hammond’s wildlife park vision.

Of course, that success could never last. Genetic tampering caused unstable animals that inevitably wrought havoc upon those who tried to control them. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion explored the relationship between humans and dinosaurs. Could we communicate with them? Train them and even work alongside them? Prehistoric animals found themselves thrust into a modern world. As you can imagine, that was a bit chaotic. Now, in Jurassic World Rebirth, transgenic research takes another turn. What happens when you mix prehistoric DNA with … other animals?

Who Is in Jurassic World Rebirth?

You can’t just send anybody in to extract dangerous, mutated DNA. It’s gotta be a team of experts. That’s where Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) comes in, as well as Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) and Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) for mission safety.

As is tradition, there is also a stranded civilian family that definitely shouldn’t be in this lethal locale. Reuben Delgado (Manuel García-Rulfo) and his three kids (Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Audrina Miranda) are there to complicate the mission, as is pharmaceutical representative Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend). And we all know how business and dinosaurs mix.

It’s not just the T-rex and velociraptors anymore, dino fans. There’s a whole island full of genetic misfits just waiting to chomp down on some fresh human.
