Watch the Official Trailer for DC’s Supergirl Movie

By Nick Cimarusti on Mar 31, 2026

Originally published March 31, 2026. This article covers the official trailer release of DC Studios’ Supergirl movie.

Supergirl will return this summer in DC Studios’ action-packed, heartfelt second film, Supergirl. Based on the DC mini series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, written by Tom King and drawn by Bilquis Evely, the upcoming entry into the DCU promises to tug on audience’s heartstrings while Kara Zor-El tugs, wields, and throws every weapon imaginable.

Her fight across the galaxy already looks to be extraordinary. She’s finding her place in the universe and we’re along for the ride. Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl hits theaters June 26, 2026. Watch the official trailer below then keep reading for a detailed breakdown of everything we know so far.

Supergirl Is Finding Her Place

“Honestly, I thought we were lucky. But luck, almost by definition, runs out.”

The trailer starts off with a message to Kara Zor-El from her cousin, Kal-El. Superman is a bit worried about Kara (played by Milly Alcock). Behind that happy-go-lucky exterior and the property damage of Krypto, Supergirl is hurting. Unlike Kal-El, she remembers her home. She mourns Krypton and is struggling to understand what home means when her planet has been destroyed.

In flashback sequences, it looks like we’ll see more of the doomed planet’s end as well as some sort of Kryptonian ceremony, perhaps a funeral. Kara’s story has always been a bit darker than Kal-El’s.

“I have no people.”

As in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Kara is not in a good place, mentally or emotionally. As an escape, she wanders throughout space, avoiding her emotions and drowning them away with whatever drink she can get her hands on. She doesn’t have Superman’s Earthly support system of friends and family. In fact, she feels like she really only has her wildly powerful and unmanageable dog, Krypto. And even that bond will be tested…

Krypto Is in Serious Trouble

“There is no home without you, buddy.”

Supergirl and Krypto are an inseparable duo until Krem of the Yellow Hills (played by Matthias Schoenaerts) shows up. Krypto attempts to defend their ship and Krem shoots the dog with a poison. Kara’s new young ally, Ruthye (played by Eve Ridley), explains that Krypto has three days until the poison takes over. And, of course, the only antidote is with Krem’s gang.

With that strict deadline, Supergirl will attempt to track down Krem and save Krypto, all while protecting Ruthye — and perhaps learning something along the way about finding her own people.

Lobo in Supergirl

“Stop! You’re hurting my head.”

That’s right, bastiches! The Main Man will make his big screen, live-action debut in Supergirl. From the few scenes they have together, it looks like their sassy personalities will clash and maybe even fight alongside each other. Lobo (played by Jason Momoa) zooms across the screen on his skull motorcycle, laughing maniacally and testing the limits of Supergirl’s patience.

Revenge won’t take your pain away, but it definitely makes for an exciting movie. What are you most looking forward to in DC’s Supergirl?
