POLL: The Best Team-Ups Throughout DC Comics
Alright, let’s get this clear right up front. Yes, there are teams in DC Comics. So that would be teams like the Justice League or the Legion of Doom, etc. That said, we’re not talking about teams with long rosters. We’re talking about team-ups.
For our purposes, we’ll say that a team-up is a small number of heroes, usually fewer than five. And, more importantly, we are looking at the best team-ups in DC Comics. Without further ado, and in no particular order, here are our top five. Vote for your favorite then keep reading to learn more!
The Trinity
It only makes sense to start with The Trinity. These heroes are perhaps the most iconic DC Comics characters ever. In fact, they might just be the most iconic characters in the world! Sure, they’ve had many origins over the years. Still, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman always find each other in any universe and in any story. Together, they form The Trinity.
As a team, they’re practically unstoppable. Naturally, Batman has a plan for anything. Superman, of course, has the power for anything. And, finally, Wonder Woman has the indomitable will to accomplish anything. Truthfully, there might not be any other team as formidable.
Birds of Prey
Next up, let’s meet the Birds of Prey. Unfortunately these heroes are often disregarded. Perhaps due to appearing in other characters’ comics, they were perceived only as sidekicks. And yet, their strengths often far oughtweigh the heroes they were featured alongside.
First up, we have Barbara Gordon as both Batgirl and Oracle. As Batgirl, she’s a talented crime-fighter. However, as Oracle, not even the CIA can stop her hacking abilities. Then, add in Dinah Lance, AKA Black Canary, whose Canary Cry is powerful enough to incapacitate even Superman with her screams. Last but not least is Helena Bertinelli AKA Huntress. Sure, she might be a bit aggressive, but even Batman can’t argue that she’s exceptionally effective.
Green Lantern & Green Arrow
While each hero on this list is absolutely important to the world of DC Comics, none have made a mark like Green Lantern and Green Arrow. Surely, few team-ups have had such a long-running comic series together. In fact, most of their appearances in comics were together for some time. Truly they were just as inseparable as they were different.
In the 1970s, Green Lantern and Green Arrow teamed up for a story arc now called Hard-Traveling Heroes. The duo took a road trip across the United States searching to find what ever happened to the American Dream. Green Lantern was your typical establishment character, whereas Green Arrow fought for the underdog and the underprivileged. Honestly, the series made a significant impact on what comics could really be and what topics they could really tackle.
Booster Gold & Blue Beetle
Now, some team-ups are temporary and some team-ups transcend time and space. Undoubtedly, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are more accurately described by the latter. In fact, their team-up transcends sheer friendship and becomes something so much more. These heroes are practically family. When push comes to shove, they’ll do anything for each other.
In one of the greatest Booster Gold stories of all, Michael Carter goes back in time to save Ted Kord. He risks everything and threatens the balance of time itself just so he can be with Ted for one day more. In the end, they can’t be together, and Booster has to let Blue Beetle die. Still, their relationship left a lasting impact on DC Comics and on the timeline itself.
Gotham City Sirens
Finally, we have the Gotham City Sirens. They’ve certainly got a lot of history, both together and separately. This trio is comprised of characters who people commonly refer to as “villains” and they’re certainly legendary members of Batman’s Rogues Gallery. However, these characters are significantly more complex than the black-and-white morality of characters like Darkseid. No, when it comes to Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman, this team-up is different.
These three women learned to protect each other in a dangerous city. Moreover, they learned to care for each other in an uncaring world. Soon, they weren’t just fighting together, they were even living together! As roommates, teammates, and powerful individuals, there’s really no team quite like the Gotham City Sirens.
Now it’s officially time for you to make a decision. Which team-up is the very best on this list? We’ve included a poll above so get to voting!
