POLL: Who Is Your Favorite MCU Avengers Villain?
This article covers the main four villains of the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
If it weren’t for world-ending evil plans, what would super heroes even do? Villains are a scary but necessary part of the cycle. The other horrible half to a heroic pie chart. Without any regard for others, they pursue their own goals. Their singular vision of a better world comes at the expense of countless innocent lives.
However, the four main villains of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are the ones who have caused the Avengers to unite as a team and take them down. Even with redemption arcs and grand defeats, they remain MCU legends in their own right. So who is your favorite of these four MCU Avengers super-villains?
Loki
In recent MCU history, Loki has had something of a comeback story. During his solo series, he sacrificed everything to become the God of Stories, a celestial position that requires all of his energy to keep the timelines in order. But before this immense character growth, Loki was the scheming, conniving, cunning snake in the Asgardian court. He aligned himself with Thanos and used the Chitauri to invade New York City — and all that is after he betrayed Thor countless times to usurp the Asgardian throne. Hope for redemption is never off the table but for a while there, it seemed like Loki really was content only looking out for himself. And a selfish villain is a dangerous villain, indeed.
Ultron
No strings here, just an evil plan to take over the world. Ultron was created by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner. Though their intentions were good, to protect the world from yet another invasion, the result was an artificial intelligence who believed himself superior to organic beings. In Ultron’s glowing red eyes, humanity was its own worst enemy. Without his interference, they would merely destroy themselves. So who better than to get the job done quickly and efficiently than a machine constructed by heroes? After all, he updated his coding just for the occasion.
Thanos
Thanos is an inevitable inclusion to a list of MCU Avengers villains. But he definitely earns his spot — a plan to erase half of the entire universe from existence is nothing short of despicable. Even without his genocide, Thanos and his Black Order instilled fear across the galaxy. At the beginning of the Infinity Saga, Thanos was lurking behind the scenes. His pawns did most of the dirty work. Once all the pieces fell into place, however, Thanos took matters into his own hands. From there, even the Avengers and all their allies nearly didn’t win against him.
Doctor Doom
His feature movies might not even be released yet, but it’s definitely not getting ahead of the game to include Doctor Doom. He’s always been the kind of villain who manages to return from defeat and/or death. He has ties to the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and even the X-Men. Often, he’s in control of an entire country — not to mention other instances when he’s the emperor of a twisted reality. With his sweeping green cloak and scarred visage, Doom makes his presence known wherever he goes.
Did we miss your favorite? There are still so many MCU super-villains who have had limited experience but lasting impacts. Remember when Hela broke Thor’s hammer and Killmonger challenged everything Wakanda stood for? Even if your favorite is M.O.D.O.K., this is a judgement free zone. Mostly.
